Artifact Justification:

Developing as a
Professional Educator
TED 690
Johnny Segovia

This is an essay that addresses and justifies the use of my artifacts to

demonstrate knowledge of the TPE domain of developing as a professional
educator.

The first artifact that I chose was a self-evaluation of a lesson plan that I wrote and
executed. I chose this artifact to demonstrate my achievement of this domain because reflection
of oneself is essential to the developing as a professional educator. An advantage of selfreflection is that it is not dependent on anyone else. Recording oneself and then going back and
reviewing the lesson plan does not require me to ask another colleague or an administrative come
in and observe me. As I continue to develop as an educator I will use this method to address any
areas of opportunity that I may have or identify areas of strength and continue to build on those.
The second artifact that I chose to demonstrate my development as a professional
educator is my certificate of completion for me and CPR certified. Part of developing as a
professional educator is also the development of my professional, legal, and ethical obligations
to the students that are entrusted with me. The requirements of a professional educator are not
limited to just knowledge of the subject matter. These requirements also include having the
ability to care for the students in my presence. I view my attainment of this CPR certification
just as important as a completion of any TPA assessment or required tests at I had to take to
become educator. Just as I will seek to continue my subject matter growth, I will also continue
my growth and these legal and ethical obligations.
The final artifact that I chose to demonstrate my development as a professional educator
was a literary review of the application of multiculturalism into the classroom. At first glance this
might not seem that this subject is Irrelevant in the developing as a professional educator
domain. But, it is very relevant in that once the knowledge has been detained on such matters as
multiculturalism, it is imperative that Educators reflect on their own practices and see if what
they have learned is applicable to them. That is to say, that the application of in this case
multiculturalism is essential to my growth as a professional educator. This is why I incorporated

three total sources and this litter review. The sources I chose to review address what a teacher
should know, the subject material, and how this subject matter is integrated into the classroom. I
feel that using all these three steps will facilitate the growth of myself as a professional educator.
