DEFINITION OF TERMS.

Anti-inflammatory.
A drug which inhibits or suppresses most inflammatory responses of an allergic, bacterial, traum
atic or anaphylacticorigin, as well as being immunosuppressant.
Carrageenan. It is used to induce inflammation for the evaluating agents that might have antiinflammatory properties.
Excision.The act of cutting out; the surgical removal of part or all of a structure or organ.
Incision.Its a cut or a wound made by a sharp instrument.
Mouse paw edema . It used to test new anti-inflammatory drugs as well as to study the
mechanisms involved in inflammation.
Negative Control.A control group that is not exposed to the experimental treatment or to any
other treatment that is expected to have an effect.
Ointment.A semisolid dosage preparation that contains active ingredient and intended for
external preparation.
Ointment base. An ointment that does not contain any active ingredients
Plethysmometer.The Digital Water Plethysmometer is designed to provide a highly useful tool
in the measurement of small volume changes. This test is typically used to follow the evolution
of the inflammatory response experimentally induced in rodents and to screen potential antiinflammatory or anti-oedema properties of pharmacological substances.
Positive Control. A control group that is not exposed to the experimental treatment but that is
exposed to some other treatment that is known to produce the expected effect.
Propolis. It is
a reddish resinous cement collected by bees from the buds of trees,used to stop up crevices in the
hives, strengthen the cells, etc.
Tensile strength. Its is
the maximum tensile stress or load that a material is capable of sustaining; usually expressed in p
ounds per squareinch.
Test animals. These are the (animals to be use) used in the experiment to test the effectives of
Propolis.
Wound. It is the (manu nga meters) caused by the surgical blade incision in the (yanna
nangsugatan) of the etst animals

Wound healing. It is the restoration of integrity to injured tissues by the use of ointment.
