Directsteaminjectionisthemostwidelyusedmethodforboilerfeedtankheatingthroughoutindustry.Thismethodisoftenchosenbecauseofitssimplicity.No

Equation2.11.1showsthatsteaminjectionutilisesalloftheenthalpyofevaporation(orlatentheat)andaproportionoftheliquidenthalpycontainedinthe
steam.Theactualproportionoftheliquidenthalpyusedwilldependonthetemperatureofthewaterattheendoftheinjectionprocess.
Onemajordifferencebetweenindirectheatinganddirectsteaminjection,isthatthevolume(andmass)oftheprocessfluidisincreasedassteamisadded,by
theamountofsteaminjected.
Anotherdifferenceisthat,whencalculatingthesteamflowratetoasteamcoil,thepressureinthecoilisconsidered,butforsteaminjection,thepressurebefore

Factorsinfluencingtheheattransferrate
InEquation2.11.1,thesteamconsumptionrateisdirectlyrelatedtotheheatrequirement.Unlessthesteaminjectionsystemisdesignedsothatallconditions

Duringdirectsteaminjection,itmightbeexpectedthatthemaximumheattransferrateattheverystartofthewarmupperiodisdependentonthemaximum

VelocityofthebubbleThevelocityofthebubbleatthepointofinjectionwillalsodependonthedifferencebetweenthesteampressureandtheliquidhead.

TemperatureoftheliquidTherateatwhichthesteamwillcondenseisdirectlyproportionaltothetemperaturedifferencebetweenthesteamandtheliquid
