ABSTRACT

The study focuses for the production of particle board using waste materials, water
lily fiber and plastics. Five sacks of water lily were harvested from Pampanga River
and sundried for seven days. The plastics used were Low-density polyethylene
(LDPE). All specimen have a dimension of 20cmX20cmX12mm and volume of
480cm3.The particle board was made from water lily fiber and plastic has weight to
weight ratio of 40%-60% and 50%-50%. Fiber and LDPE were mixed with the roll
miller to produce homogenous mat and hot press. The test was conduct are
modulus of rapture, face screw holding, edge screw holding, thickness swelling, and
water absorption. The 40%-60% water lily fiber and LDPE has a modulus of rupture
of 266.08 kgs/cm2, 47% higher than the required value. Face Screw holding ranges
to 59.20 kgs/min 86.40 kgs/min, 18.40%-72.80% higher than the required value.
Edge Screw holding ranges to 109.50 kgs/min- 137.80 kgs/min, five times higher
than the required value. The 50%-50% water lily and LDPE has a modulus of rupture
of 257.17 kgs/cm2, 51.60% higher than the required value. Face Screw holding
ranges to 59.2 kgs/min 75.8 kgs/min, 18.4%-72.8% higher than the required value.
Edge Screw holding ranges to 106.50 kgs/min- 126.90 kgs/min, five times higher
than the required value. The density of the samples ranges to .975 kgs/m3 1.037
kgs/m3. As the ratio of LDPE increases the density of the particle board decreases.
