SANTA CLARA MARINE PLYWOOD!!!
(SMWPI Wood Products Inc.)
I spoke with their officers and their plant is in Davao City, Mindanao Island. They have their head office though in Manila (02)2425998, and have
accredited distributors within Metro Manila, Lucena City, and Davao City. They are keenly aware of fakes being sold using their name, so the
past 10 years they have installed a sticker tag and barcode (which they showed on their samples) on each and every sheet, and you can call or
text their 24 hour hotline to confirm the sheet(s) that you are being is authentic or not, and trace its source. They encouraged me to verify
each and every sheet I'd buy using the 24 hour hotline number.
They shrugged off Zamboply as a poor competitor, since they claim theirs is superior, and they have been in the business for 85 years and
exporting to a number of coutnries too. You can boil their marine plywood for 72 hours staight and they guarantee it will not delaminate.
WOW!!!
Types and Sizings of Marine Plywood:
5mm 1 C-Marine Type (whatever this means)
9mm 1 C-Marine Type
10mm 1 C-Marine Type
I've cut a lot of Sta. Clara plywood we bought in Sto. Tomas and I have yet to see a void in the 5 mm. I hope the quality is the same.
Called Topan marketing and got the following prices for the plywood:
5 mm at P380
10 mm at 800
11 mm at 820
18 mm at 1,260
Their 5 mm plywood is a lot cheaper than the 5 mm that we buy in Sto. Tomas. I think I'll go over there and buy a few pieces for the Optimist
to get a feel of the quality.
The 11 mm (an unusual size) is just perfect for the bottom of the Optimist, as it needs to be thick because glue will be the only thing that
holds the bottom and the side together. Bulkheads can be 9 mm for lightness. We shall see.
I was quite happy with the 5mm sta clara plywood purchased from sto tomas batangas.
The 10mm sta clara had so many voids I'd rather not use it again. Some voids were 1/2 wide,
visible only after you cut it. The void ends were cleverly capped to hide it from sight.
What about 4mm & 8mm plywood, are these available? Where?

Santa Clara can be bought at Toppan at Araneta Avenue but I do not know any store in Cavite area. I remember they are selling undersized 3/8"
and undersized 1/2" and of course the undersized 1/4" at 5 mm.
any feedback on Sta Rosa brand plywood?
My "suki" hardware, where the boat builder always buys his plywood, is no longer selling Sta. Clara brand and instead they are promoting the
Sta. Rosa brand.
5mm is P405
18mm is P1340
I went ahead and bought some cause I did not have time to look for the Sta Clara brand.
