CONSTITUTION AND BYLAWS OUTLINE CONSTITUTION OF JAPANESE LANGUAGE CLUB ARTICLE | Name The name of this organization is Japanese Language Club. ARTICLE It Purpose ‘The purpose of this organization is to facilitate expanded learning of the Japanese language and the application of skills acquired through formal Japanese language courses with peers in a social environment. ARTICLE It Definition of Membership Membership and participation are free from discrimination on the basis of race, religion, color, sex, age, national origin or ancestry, genetic information, marital status, parental status, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, disability, or status as a veteran, The faculty advisor of this club is a non-student member of the organization with all rights and privileges therein, except for the right to vote or hold office. itis recommended that members have completed or are enrolled in JPNS 204, or a more advanced course. Purdue University staff and faculty are eligible for adjunct, membership and may not vote or hold office. Members may be expelled for conduct deemed inappropriate for a learning environment. Expulsions proceedings are conducted by majority vote among the officers when a complaint has been made by another member. The accused member has the right to respond to allegations of misconduct in writing. Such responses shall be delivered to the president for consideration before the officers vote on the matter. ARTICLE IV Officers and Duties + President — The president is in charge of administration, preparation of activity materials, and steering the strategic direction of the club. + Treasurer — The treasurer keeps accounts, deposits the organization's funds, and makes expenditures in a manner approved by the Business Office for Student Organizations, * Public Relations — The public relations officer manages outreach on social media sites and other mediums. + Faculty Advisor — The faculty advisor should be an instructor or professor of Japanese with good rapport with their students, and have a desire to help them enhance their learning beyond the classroom. ARTICLE V Officer Qualifications and Election Process + Student Officers: (President, Treasurer, Public Relations) ©. The officer should be a student of competent Japanese ability, with strong leadership, communication, and organization skills. ©. The officer is elected by a majority vote of the active club members from among volunteer candidates. Candidates should have a history of active Participation in club events. © The tem of office for the student officer is one semester. + Faculty Advisor: ©. The faculty advisor is selected by the officers of the club via a majority vote of the sitting officers. © Faculty advisors serve a one year term, renewable at their option with the consent of the President and Treasurer. ARTICLE VI Amendments Amendments to the constitution and bylaws may be authored by any member of the club. Authors should submit their proposed amendments to the President and prepare a presentation on the amendment and its merits. Adoption of the amendment will be decided by a majority officer vote. All amendments to the constitution and bylaws are subject to the approval of the Office of the Dean of Students and do not take effect until they have been approved. BYLAWS Elections 1.1, The election process is held at the second to last meeting of each semester. 1.2. Volunteer candidates will submit an application to the president with the following information the week prior: 1.2.4. FullName 4.2.2. Phone Number 1.2.3, Japanese Education level 1.2.4. Class status (e.g. Freshman) 1.2.5. Previous leadership experience 1.3, After applications are reviewed, the candidates present themselves at the second to last meeting of the semester. 1.3.1, Each candidate gives a one minute speech explaining their qualifications. 1.3.2. The active members present then cast a vote by ballot. 1.3.3. The candidate with the most votes wins the position 2 Special Elections 2.1. Inthe event an officer leaves their position before their term is complete, the procedure used outlined in 1 shall be used, with the process to be completed in one month, 2.2. Officers elected in a special election will hold that position only for the remainder of the current term. 3. Rules 3:1. Itis expected that all members conduct themselves in a friendly and respectful manner. 3.2. It is strongly discouraged to use English during Japanese conversation activities, 4 Dues 4.1, No regular dues are collected. 4.4.1. Any funds necessary are to be collected by fund raising activities. 5. Passing of Amendments 5.1. Amendments should be written and presented to the officers as des Article VI of the constitution 5.2. Adoption of the amendment will be decided by majority vote of the officers. 6. Vacancies 6.1.
