WHITBY MXC, NEWSLETTER 2017.

Several changes for this year, both to the track and program. The club suffered badly with
adverse weather and falling entry numbers in 2016. We cant continue much longer with the
entries we were getting. If there is no improvement we will have to stop running the Club
events and just run the National events. It isnt a simple matter of just running more events
to attract more riders as our hands are tied by the National Parks Planning Authority. We
must abide by their edicts, usage restrictions and planning conditions or they will stop us
completely.
In a similar vein, we are having to adhere to the wishes of the Scarborough Borough Council
Event Safety Committee or they can stop us completely. They insist that we provide
enhanced medical and ambulance cover due to the distance from the local A & E facilities.
Whitby has no A & E. The Yorkshire Ambulance service insist that normally we must
transport patients to either Scarborough or James Cook, Middlesbrough using private
ambulances. When an ambulance leaves the track we lose it for about three hours.
We are having another go this year and have initially planned two dates, MAY 21st and JUNE
25th. We hope to get the numbers up by making a few alterations. Due to popular demand,
the track itself was altered significantly at the end of last year to make it less technical and
demanding. It will continue to be spectacular and great fun to ride though. As the novice
classes are always most popular there will be two again. Classes 2 and 3 equivalent to the C1
and C2 classes we ran a couple of years ago, and class 1 for the quicker lads. Additionally, we
are introducing another class or group, the practice class, 4. This new group will be aimed at;
1.
2.
3.

The rider who just wants to ride his bike and enjoy it in a non-competitive environment.
Those who want to check out the track and its facilities and compare their lap times with
the race classes before entering the appropriate race class on another day.
The outright novice who just wants to get himself up to speed before joining into the
cut and thrust of racing.

This new group will have four 15 minute sessions of open practice with full marshal, medical
and ambulance cover. The cost will be 30 each and will include an MCF one day practice
licence. Holders of the Full MCF competition licence will get a 5 discount. You will be
covered under the event insurance. (no event insurance covers personal accident risks
though. However, the full MCF licence comes with the option of personal accident insurance
at very competitive rates and covers the rider 24/7, 365 days even when not riding) Several
companies also offer personal accident cover for motorsport competitors.
There will be the option of hiring a transponder for 10 for the day so that your lap times will
be recorded. Then you can compare times with the race classes. It will be best to reserve a
transponder at least a week before the event as the Club must pre-order and pay for
transponders in batches. If you havent reserved one you will be relying on there being some
left spare on race day.
For more information you can contact the Club Secretary, Paul Manton by one of the means
shown on the supplementary regulations. The methods preferred are email, facebook
message or text but if you do ring use the landline number 01723 862043 between 6 PM and

the gate mechanism, the raising of the National Flag will start the

not be placed or eligible for prize awards. Transponders can be
hired if you give us a weeks notice (we must order them in

transponders so they can compare their lap times with the racers.
It is the responsibility of the rider to ensure his transponder is
operating correctly. The provisional results of each race will be
displayed at the office of the meeting as soon as possible after the
end of the race. After 30 minutes that result becomes the official
result. No protest(s) will be considered after this time.
Pot Hunters Every rider is expected to be honest and enter the
Group of their riding ability. If a rider is seen to be obviously
above the standard of the Group they have entered, the organisers
reserve the right to move the rider up into the correct Group, even
if this means moving him/her up half-way through the meeting.
