--- Conductor Biographies --Eric Black - Eric Black is an Instrumental Music Education major planning to graduate in the upcoming Spring semester. In his time at
George Mason, he has been the principal tubist of the Symphonic Band and Symphony Orchestra, along with performing in the Wind
Symphony. Eric has studied primarily under professor Andrew Hitz, but has also had extended experience learning from professor Dave
Porter and Dr. Michael Nickens. Eric is a brother of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and is a member of the George Mason University Green
Machine. Eric plans on pursuing a Masters Degree in Tuba Performance once done with undergraduate study.
Samantha Charriez - Samantha Charriez is a senior Music Education major and performs as principal oboist of Masons Symphony
Orchestra and Wind Symphony. She is the oboe instructor at GMUs Potomac Arts Academy, the Judith Lapple Summer Woodwind Camp,
and also has a small private oboe studio. Ms. Charriez studied oboe with Dr. Lorrie Berkshire Brown and Laurel Siberts, and has participated
in master classes with Joseph Robinson, Bert Lucarelli, Dr. Charles Huang, Kristin Leitterman, Sherie Lake Aguirre, and Aaron Hill. She
performs with the American Festival Pops Orchestra under the direction of Maestro Anthony Maiello, with whom she studied instrumental
conducting.
Vanessa Cuellar - Vanessa Cuellar is an Instrumental Music Education major planning to graduate Spring 2017. At George Mason, Vanessa
has performed with the Symphonic Band, the Mason Flute Choir, and the Mason Symphony Orchestra. In her local church, she has been the
primary accompanist since August 2010, working regularly with other church musicians while coordinating and preparing special
performances. She has studied flute with Dr. Jenny Lapple, and piano with Dr. John Healey. Following graduation, Vanessa plans to start her
career as a music educator, and later pursue a graduate degree in Early Childhood Education or Music Performance.
Theodore Frederick - A native of Richmond, Virginia, Theodore Frederick is a senior at George Mason University pursuing a Bachelor of
Music in Music Education. He has studied with both Mark Jenkins and Andrew Hitz in his time at George Mason. He has played with many
university ensembles, including the Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band, Brass Ensemble, Tuba Euphonium Ensemble, and the Green Machine
Pep Band. He is the former Vice President of the Rho Omicron Chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. Theodore is a part of the staff of the
McLean High School Marching Band, and upon graduation, he hopes to become a full time music teacher in Fairfax County Public Schools.
Sarah Gebbia - Sarah Gebbia is currently pursuing her Bachelors of Music in Music Education at GMU. Sarah studies clarinet with Dr.
Kathleen Mulcahy, and has studied piano privately with Dr. Yoonji Kim and Professor Wade Beach. Sarah has performed with the GMU
Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band, and Orchestra. Sarah maintains a healthy studio of piano students at Jordan Kitts Music School in
Fairfax, VA. Sarah is also a member of Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity.Besides her musical engagements, Sarah is a member
of Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society, The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, Golden Key Honor Society, and Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society.
Schuyler Kieley - Schuyler Kieley is an undergraduate student at George Mason University pursuing a Bachelors Degree of Music in
Instrumental Education. At George Mason, Schuyler is actively involved in the School of Music. He has performed with the Mason
Symphony Orchestra, the Wind Symphony, the Symphonic Band, the Jazz Ensemble, the Jazz Workshop, the Brass Ensemble, and the Brass
Quintet. Since his freshman year, he has played in the Green Machine Pep Band under the direction of Dr. Michael Nickens, and is also a
scholarship recipient and strike crew leader with the band. Schuyler has studied with Dr. Kevin Gebo, Phil Snedecor, Dr. Dennis Edelbrock,
Steve Luck, and Jim Osborn. For the past two summers, Schuyler was a trumpet counselor at the Performing Arts Institute of Wyoming
Seminary in Kingston, Pennsylvania. Following his graduation from George Mason, Schuyler plans on pursuing a career as an exceptional
music educator and performer.
Krista Pack - Krista Pack is a senior music education major at GMU where she studies flute with Professor Julianna Nickel. Ms. Pack has
performed in several masterclasses for renowned flutists such as Robert Dyck, Leone Buyse, Mimi Stillman, and Jonathon Keeble. This
summer, Krista participated in the esteemed Eastern Music Festival in Greensboro, North Carolina where she studied and performed
orchestral music for five weeks. Also this summer, she co-led an entrepreneurial three-day flute camp for intermediate level flutists. Krista
enjoys teaching flute and piano lessons in her studio in the Northern Virginia area.
Millicent Smith -Millie Smith is a senior studying Music Education at George Mason University. She studies saxophone under the direction
of Professor Ed Fraedrich. Millie is from Afton, Virginia where she gained inspiration from her band program to further her career in music.
Over the summer of 2014 she worked as an intern for the Wintergreen Summer Music Festival. She has performed with the Mason Wind
Symphony, Jazz Workshop, Mason Symphonic Band, various GMU Saxophone Quartets, and Saxophone ensembles while here at Mason.
She will be student teaching in Fairfax County next semester. After graduation Millie plans to start her career as a music educator in the
Northern Virginia area.
Christen Soos - Christen Soos is currently pursuing a B.M. in Music Education at George Mason University where she studies flute with
Julianna Nickel. This past February, she was selected to perform in the Mid-Atlantic Flute Convention Guest Artist Masterclass with Peter
Sheridan, and has also performed in a masterclass for Emily Skala of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. She was also selected to perform in
the 2016 School of Music Honors Recital as the woodwind soloist. In 2015, she joined the faculty at the Judith Lapple Summer Woodwind
Camp. Christen has performed as a part of the George Mason University Symphony Orchestra, Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band, Flute
Choir, and the University Chorale.
Aubrey Virakone - Aubrey Virakone is currently pursuing a B.M. in Music Education at George Mason University. While at Mason she has
played with a variety of ensembles including Symphonic Band, Symphony Orchestra, Wind Symphony, Percussion Ensemble and Steel Pan
Ensemble. Aubrey has studied percussion under John Spirtas and John Kilkenny. She has also played with the Manassas Symphony
Orchestra and the Annandale Symphony Orchestra. Outside of school, Aubrey has her own private piano studio and teaches music classes
throughout Northern Virginia through Piano Keys 4 Kids and Bach to Rock.
