INS Kadma] is named aPer one of the large islands amongst the
Lakshadweep group of Islands o the west coast of India.
India on 28 January 2016 test red its indigenously-built
surface-to-air Akash missile from complex-3 of the Integrated
Test Range (ITR).at Chandipuri in Odisha.

InternaJonal Fleet Review (IFR) 2016 of the Indian Navy was concluded on 8 February 2016
The 5-day long event was hosted by the Indian Navy with the theme United through Oceans. It was a]ended
by the President of India Pranab Mukherjee and the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The review was aimed at assuring the country of the Indian Navys preparedness, high morale and
discipline.
Considered as countrys biggest military exercise
The list of parJcipaJng countries included the 5 permanent members of the UNSC the USA, China, the UK,
Russia and France, South Korea, Brazil, Canada, etc.
Dolphin was chosen as the mascot for the IFR-2016.
About Interna@onal Fleet Review
A eet review is a ceremonial and stately inspecJon of naval warships by the supreme commander of
armed forces, the President of India.
The rst IFR was held o the coast of Mumbai in 2001 when APJ Abdul Kalam was the President. 29
countries parJcipated in that event.
The Ph ediJon of exercise IBSAMAR between
Brazil, India and South Africa kicked o on 19
February 2016 in Goa. The exercise will conclude on
29 February 2016.
This is the rst Jme that Exercise IBSAMAR is being
conducted in Indian waters. All the previous
ediJons were being held o South Africa.
Exercise FORCE 18, the largest ground forces mulJnaJonal eld training exercise on
Humanitarian Mine Ac@on and Peacekeeping Opera@ons concluded on 8 March
2016 in Pune, Maharashtra.
FORCE 18, which was conducted from 2 March to 8 March 2016, was the largest
Ground Forces Exercise ever conducted on Indian soil.
The Indian Army con@ngent of 40 soldiers was led by Lt Col Sophia Qureshi, a
Woman Ocer from the Corps of Signals. Qureshi now has the rare disJncJon of
becoming the rst woman ocer to lead an Indian Army training conJngent in such
a large mulJnaJonal exercise.
About ASEAN
The AssociaJon of Southeast Asian NaJons (ASEAN) is a poliJcal and economic
organizaJon of ten Southeast Asian countries.
It was formed on 8 August 1967 by Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines,
Singapore and Thailand.
Where: Visakhapatnam
The Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV), ICGS Arnvesh, of the Indian Coast Guard
(ICG) was commissioned on 21 March 2016 in Visakhapatnam.
Arnvesh is equipped with the most-advanced navigaJonal and
communicaJon sensors and equipment, including night vision
capabiliJes.
It is ]ed with 40/60 Bofors gun onboard as main armament.

Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Naval Command.
The Ocer-In-Charge of the Detachment is Lt Cdr Angom
B Singh who will funcJon under the Naval Ocer-inCharge (Lakshadweep and Minicoy Island).
Indian Navy on 11 May 2016 decommissioned its
eet of iconic Sea Harriers. This episode of
decommissioning marked the end of an era in
Indias naval history, as the country holds an ocial
ceremony phasing out the last of its iconic Sea
Harrier jets.
They were replaced with new generaJon MIG-29 K
ghters in a ceremony on INS Hansa near Vasco.
Integrated Underwater Harbour Defence and
Surveillance System (IUHDSS) and Mine Warfare

India on 18 May 2016 successfully test red indigenously developed Prithvi-II
missile from the Chandipur, o Odisha coast.
It weighs 4600 kilogram and has a strike range of 350 kilometer.
It is capable of carrying 500 kg to 1000 kg of warheads and is thrusted by
liquid propulsion twin engines.
It is the rst missile to be developed by Defence Research and Development
OrganisaJon (DRDO) under India's Integrated Guided Missile Development
Program (IGMDP).
Fast A]ack CraP INS Tarmugli was on 23 May
2016 commissioned into Indian Navy today by

at Naval Dockyard, Visakhapatnam.
Second submarine assembly workshop of the
Mazagon Dock Limited (MDL) was inaugurated by
Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on 28 May
2016.

INS Kalvari, the rst submarine of this class, is
expected to join the Indian Navy by end of 2016.
India, the United States and Japan This is the 20th
ediJon of Malabar Exercise that was conducted Jll
17 June 2016 .
This year, four Indian ships are parJcipaJng in
the exercise including INS Satpura, INS Sahyadri,
INS ShakJ and INS Kirch.

When: 30 June 2016
India's rst Integrated Defence CommunicaJon Network (DCN) was
launched on 30 June 2016.
The DCN was inaugurated by Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar at
South Block.
The network enables the Army, the Air Force, the Navy and the Special
Forces Command to share situaJonal awareness for a faster decisionmaking process. It is the rst tri-service communica@on and IT
network of the Armed Forces.
