joint exercise o the coast of Chennai.
Indias Coast Guard vessel Samudra Pehredar and the Japanese vessel Echigo
were berthed at Chennai Port for the bilateral training called Sahyog-Kaijin
2016.
The highlight of the joint exercise was anJ-piracy. However, search and
rescue operaJons and interoperability between the two forces was also given
emphasis.

The rst IFR was held o the coast of Mumbai in 2001 when APJ Abdul Kalam was the President. 29

Agni-I was developed by Advanced Systems Laboratory, the premier missile
development laboratory of DRDO in collaboraJon with Defence Research
Development Laboratory and Research Centre Imarat and integrated by Bharat
Dynamics Limited, Hyderabad.

The missile is 15-metre-long and weighed 12 tonnes and equipped with
sophisJcated navigaJon system which ensures it reaches the target with a high
degree of accuracy and precision.

The missile is a surface-to-surface and single-stage missile powered by solid
propellants and capable of hilng a target 700 kilometers away.

FORCE 18 concluded in Pune

Exercise FORCE 18, the largest ground forces mulJnaJonal eld training exercise on
Humanitarian Mine Ac@on and Peacekeeping Opera@ons concluded on 8 March
2016 in Pune, Maharashtra.

FORCE 18, which was conducted from 2 March to 8 March 2016, was the largest
Ground Forces Exercise ever conducted on Indian soil.
The Indian Army con@ngent of 40 soldiers was led by Lt Col Sophia Qureshi, a
Woman Ocer from the Corps of Signals. Qureshi now has the rare disJncJon of
becoming the rst woman ocer to lead an Indian Army training conJngent in such
a large mulJnaJonal exercise.

The AssociaJon of Southeast Asian NaJons (ASEAN) is a poliJcal and economic
organizaJon of ten Southeast Asian countries.

Nuclear capable undersea ballisJc missile, code named K-4, was successfully
test red on 31 March 2016 from an undisclosed locaJon in the Bay of
Bengal. The test was conducted nearly 45 nauJcal miles away from
Vishakhapatnam coast in Andhra Pradesh.

K-4 is a nuclear capable intermediate-range submarine-launched ballisJc
missile under development by DRDO to arm the Arihant-class submarines.
The missile has a reported eecJve range of over 3500 km.

had tasked the Vasco defence public sector undertaking to build.
This 105-metre new generaJon OPV that was launched by the Governor of Goa,
Mridula Sinha will be delivered to the Coast Guard aPer sea trials are
completed. The ICGS Shaurya will be commissioned into service in early 2017.


The vessel is capable of cruising at a speed of 23 knots and has a range of
6000 nauJcal miles.

decommissioning marked the end of an era in

Flag aerial combat exercises at Alaska in the U.S.

The four-week long aerial combat exercises were held at the Eielson Air Force
Base in Alaska, United States of America. This was the second Jme India had

Exercise Red Flag is an advanced aerial combat training exercise hosted at
Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada.
Red Flag Alaska is held at Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska. It is a successor
to the previous COPE THUNDER exercise series in the Western Pacic and
Alaska.

The ship has been named ICGS ARUSH that means rst ray of
sun. ARUSH is the seventeenth ship in the series of twenty
Fast Patrol Vessels (FPVs), designed and built by M/s Cochin

Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, China, Peru, Korea, Philippines,
