1.0 Cranial puncture
Ventricular shunt is a surgical procedure in which a tube is placed in one of the fluidfilled chambers inside the brain (ventricles). The fluid around the brain and the spinal column is
called the cerebrospinal fluid. When infection or disease causes an excess of this cerebrospinal
fluid in the ventricles, the shunt is placed to drain it and thereby relieve excess pressure.

03.2 Chordotomy
Cordotomy (or chordotomy) is a surgical procedure that
disables selected
pain-conducting tracts in the spinal
cord, in order to achieve loss of pain
and temperature
perception. This procedure is commonly performed on
patients experiencing severe pain due to cancer or other
incurable
diseases.
Anterolateral cordotomy is effective for relieving unilateral,
somatic pain
while bilateral cordotomies may be required
for visceral or bilateral pain.

A sympathectomy is an irreversible procedure during which at least one sympathetic
ganglion is removed.
An example is endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy.
