JANUARY 2018-FEBRUARY 2018
This process was mostly focused on teaching the students the basics of
combat, while also choreographing short fights for two different
classes’ adaptations of “Taming of the Shrew”.
I designed the sexually violent climax of “Oleanna” for this company in
a small, intimate space. One favorite move was a head slam into the door
that the actors executed wonderfully.
I teach elementary and middle school aged young women about fight
choreography and teach them hand-to-hand moves, which we then
turned into fights for part of their final workshops.
For another production of Much Ado About Nothing, I designed the fight
between Leonata and Claudio and a piece of violence for Beatrice and
Benedick. It was in an intimate space, which made us get creative with
angles. I also ran fight calls, as I was playing Hero in the cast.
EDUCATION
This program not only taught me about theatre and storytelling from
various points of view, but also movement, both in a broad sense using
techniques such as Laban, Contact Improv, and Feldenkrais, but also
specifically training in SAFD style combat in Stage Combat and
Advanced Stage Combat with Nick Sandys.
