Speaker One [Portuguese]
My biggest passion is sushi. Im definitely a sushi addict. I have it, oh, probably
twice a week. Theres a terrific restaurant around the corner from where I live in
Rio. And they make amazing sushi.
Speaker Two
My wife is crazy about asparagus, but I really dont care for it. I dont know why.
It just doesnt agree with me. I cant even look at it.
Speaker Three
When I was a kid, I didnt use to like them. I thought they tasted funny. But now,
Ive turned into a big mango eater. Theres really nothing quite like slices of fresh
mango. Mmm.
Speaker Four [Spanish]
My family loves pasta. We have it several times a week, but I dont touch it. The
truth is, we just have it TOO muchwith tomato sauce, pesto sauce, garlic and
oilyou name it. Ill eat anything, but Im really not much of a pasta lover.
Speaker Five [Chinese]
The problem with ice cream is I like it too much. When Im on a diet, I cant eat it.
But that doesnt mean I dont think about it all the time. I do.

Speaker One [Spanish]
Im from Oaxaca, and we have a special food called chapulines. Chapulines means
grasshoppers, actually. But theyre really good and theyre really good for you.
Theyre pretty salty, and . . . uh . . . crunchy. They really do taste great, though.
Speaker Two [U.S. regional]
When I was growing up, my mother used to make Jell-O all the time. It comes in
beautiful colors and it comes in at least twenty-six different flavors. Grape, lemon,
orange, mixed fruit, cherry, mango. Its soft and cool and its sweet and kids just
love it. Where I come from, we make it into all kinds of salads with fruit.
Speaker Three [Korean]
In Korea, we eat kim chee a lot. Its a kind of salad that we eat with most meals. There
are actually about 180 different kinds of kim chee. But most are made with cabbage.
Its very hot and spicy. And its nice and crunchy.
Speaker Four [Australian English]
When I travel, theres one thing I really miss about home: my Vegemite. We all grew
up with the stuff and we love it. You put some butter on a piece of toast, add a little
bit of Vegemite on it, and enjoy. Some people think it looks awful, actually. Its kind of
a dark reddish-brown colorwell, black, really. Its very salty, so just use a little bit.

Speaker Five [Chinese]


Have you ever tried cho dofu? Well, if you havent, youll be very surprised because
it smells very bad! Thats what the name meansbad-smelling tofu. But the flavor is
quite deliciousa little salty. I didnt use to like it myself, but now Im crazy about it.
Speaker Six [Japanese]
Mochi is made from a sweet rice and its really delicious. We always eat mochi to
celebrate the New Year. It tastes sweet and its very, very chewy. As a matter of fact,
some old people have to be very careful if they eat it. But it tastes great.

A: Nice restaurant.
B: Yeah. Youre gonna love the menu. The fish is really fresh.
A: Hmm, do they have pizza?
B: Not here. How about some pasta? They have it with shrimp, clams, scallops . . .

A: Uh . . . Chicken would be good.
B: I dont think they have chicken. Sorry.
A: OK, the truth is Im not crazy about seafood. I just dont like it. Actually, Im really
a meat eater at heart.
B: Well, why didnt you say something! We didnt have to come to a seafood restaurant.
A: Dont worry about it. Ill be fine.
B: Hey, look. They have steak.
A: OK, now youre talking.
