Some people may ask, why is there such a long and strenuous contention between India
and Pakistan? Since the partition of India, Pakistan and India have failed to develop positive and
fruitful political, social, and economic relations. The reason being is because the territory of
Kashmir is such a main focal point in the Indo-Pak relations and is causing a cease fire and 3
wars all in the surpassing of India and Pakistans desire for Kashmir. The main reasons for India
and Pakistans disagreement is their religion, geographical location, and poverty.
A main reason for the dispute between India and Pakistan is their major differences in
religion. India is majority Hindu, while Pakistan is majority Muslim. Conflict between India and
Pakistan originated as a clash between Indian and Muslim nationalism. Having different
religions while trying to share the same land only made for more of a conflict. Their different
political and religious views caused many disagreements and it resulted with many years of
fighting, a cease fire was signed but the situation remains unsolved. After these many years of
fighting and constantly getting nowhere in this situation I feel as if this feud will never be
resolved. India and Pakistan have been fighting in this dispute for many years now and they have
had many opportunities to resolve the conflict over Kashmir but it still hasnt come to a peaceful

resolution due to political and religious differences. So, these are the reasons why religion has a
big impact on the Kashmiri conflict.
The geographical location of Pakistan has a lot to do with why India and Pakistan have
fought over Kashmir. The territory of Kashmir was hotly contested even before India and
Pakistan won their independence from Britain in 1947.Under the partition plan provided by the
Indian Independence Act, Kashmir was free to accede to India or Pakistan. The Indus river flows
through Kashmir, which is a critical source of Drinking water and irrigation water. Whoever is
in control of Kashmir has a vital resource, the Indus river. Neither Pakistan nor India are willing
to give up this vital resource. This causes much conflict because for example, if India takes over
Kashmir then Pakistan will lose all the Indus river water that they so greatly need as a resource,
or vice versa. They will always be constantly in contingent with each other during this dispute
over the Indus river and its amazing resources that both Pakistan and India are aspiring to
endorse.
Both India and Pakistan have a large population which in return causes widespread
poverty. They used so much money on troops, arms, and nuclear programs that they didnt leave
enough money to educate the people so that they can go out, get a job, work and in return they
will be able to make money and support their family. Majority of Indias people are farmers, but
they arent making money and are refusing to use modern farming techniques that they need to
grow their crops. Another major factor is global warming. Global warming can affect the farmers
land and crops greatly in a negative way. If there is a monsoon there can be severe flooding of
huge areas of land and a months worth of crops could be wiped out in a matter of minutes.
Therefore, the Indian and Pakistani people need to be educated. After they come out of poverty
they will be very well educated, therefore they will no longer need to rely on other resources

such as water from the Indus river or other resources that they usually rely on. That is why India
and Pakistan should make it a priority to educate their people so that can get out of poverty and
eventually have jobs and not rely on other resources.
The problem between India and Pakistan is huge because this is almost like a neverending war. Both India and Pakistan badly want Kashmir but Kashmir just wants to be
independent. This problem is occurring because the lack of education throughout India and
Pakistan and if they work on improving education there will be juristic changes in the economy
for the better. The Kashmir conflict has caused much turmoil in their economies but if both
states work hard and get their priorities straight I believe that they can solve this issue and build a
better economy for the future!
