Proof of Concept The Development of the Representation of Women. throughout Disney’s Feature Animated Films Proposed Dissertation mile eM an For my dissertation I'd like to explore the representation of women through the female characters and roles throughout Disney's animated feature films from disney's earlier film ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’ (1937) to the studios most recent film, Moana (2016). I would like to look at the progression of the main female characters, from rather passive characters, waiting to be saved by the Prince Charming from a never ending sleep or villainous queen Snow white, Sleeping beauty, to very partaking within the film and taking the lead, Frozen, Moana etc. As well as being passive in the early era, the women who are independent are seen as the villains, Wicked Queen in Snow White, Maleficent SU SD 1-1 oR MITC Mm -to] aan Key Themes/Issues Feminism Gender Roles Representation of Female Characters Representation of Male Characters Appearace of Characters Target Audience Film Success Animation Platform, 2D/3D Early Film Comparisons Main Films Snow White seem Toa Sleeping Beauty e-em nner SSM Te Cinderella Maat Little Mermaid Beauty and The Beast leis Alladin RES NITE mmePActa| Atlantis Moana Lilo and Stitch Big Books Good Girls and Wicked Witches: Changing Representations of Women in Disney's Feature Animation, 1937-2001 Amy M.
