Analysis
The origin of the concept of the distinction of gender and sex it must be
about the context we use, they said that a woman is more passive,
conservative, sluggish and stable, and that the man are energetic,
passionate, variable and, thereby. When I think a person can be both I
dont think that its any problem with that. And I will take the reference
about Nancy Chodorow in the document I had read, I think that the
society makes who we are, I mean, the man only can do what mans can
do and the same is for the womans
I have to say that this topic in particular, it was so interesting for me,
how can a word make you think incorrect from a topic, I was so
uninformed about this topic, and now that I had read about it change so
much of my perception of this.
And also about how does the sex and the genders. I have to say that the
view of Geddes and Thompson in 1889 is a little offensive, I think that
men and woman can do exactly the same, not only that because your
sex you have to be delimitated (in my opinion).
I also Im so agree with the opinion of MacKinnon, nowadays the
womans want the strong man who can protect the, and the mans want
that sexy girl that they can manipulate, and I confirmed when he said :
Pornography portrays a false picture of what women want suggesting
that women in actual fact are and want to be submissive.
I would like to take this from the text were Judith Butler said: That is, in
their attempt to fix feminism's subject matter, feminists unwittingly
defined the term woman in a way that implies there is some correct
way to be gendered a woman (Butler 1999, 5).
So in my head stared a question that is, does some groups of feminist
know what are they actually doing? Because nowadays the people only
get to together to be like in part of some group, when they dont even
know about what is going on. Feminists should not try to define
woman at all.
Some
feminists
have
argued
that
sex
classifications
are
not
unproblematic and that they are not solely a matter of biology. The
concept of sex is said to be a product of social forces in the sense that
what counts as sex is shaped by social meanings.
I really think that the sex and gender are different, by their own concept,
but in the feminism Butler says that there isnt no difference. All the
information about Butler was so interesting for me, I liked that when I
was reading about how for Butler, sexed bodies never exist outside
social meanings and how we understand gender shapes how we
understand sex.
Stone takes this to mean that sex is gender but goes on to question it
arguing that the social construction of both sex and gender does not
make sex identical to gender, it would be more accurate for Butler to
say that claims about sex imply gender norms.
Some feminists hold that the sex/gender distinction is not useful, but the
difference its very important because is use to reflect de oppositions
between mind and body, why? Because if the feminism dont take the
distinction properly it cant work, and if they dont take this importance
its going to been used to criticize the feminism.
Feminism is the movement to end the oppression women as a group
face. Feminists must be able to address cultural and social differences in
gender construction if feminism is to be a genuinely inclusive movement
and be careful not to posit commonalities that mask important ways in
which women qua women differ.
Linda Alcoff holds that feminism faces an identity crisis: the category of
women is feminism's starting point, but various critiques about gender
have fragmented the category and it is not clear how feminists should
understand what it is to be a woman.
