FIFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

FEBRUARY 5, 2017
enable us to continue the many programs
that assist us in our ongoing spiritual renewal
and communion to which we are called as
followers of Christ. All registered members of
the parish will receive in the mail a brief letter
from me introducing the Annual Catholic
Appeal along with a brochure outlining how
the monies raised are used in the service of
the Church in San Diego and our parish in
particular. I would ask that you please fill out
the pledge envelope and return it to us as
soon as possible. If you do not receive the
letter and brochure or if you are not yet a
registered member of the parish you may pick
up a pledge envelope and brochure next
weekend at the main entrance of the church.

Pastors Corner
My dear brothers and sisters,
This weekend the Church celebrates the
annual World Day for Consecrated Life.
Consecrated life is a vocation, a call from God,
to conform ones life to Jesus Christ through
living as he did in poverty, chastity and
obedience, dedicating oneself to God for
service to the Church and for the salvation of
the world. The most well known form of
consecrated life, and that which is the
prototype for the other forms, is religious life. In
this form, men and women pronounce publicly
the vows of poverty, chastity and obedience,
live in community, and share a common
apostolate. The greatest numbers of religious
are women, called sisters. Among the men,
there are brothers, deacons and priests. Within
religious life there are two general forms of
living: active or apostolic and contemplative.
While all religious have prayer as their first and
foremost duty, apostolic institutes are actively
involved in the works of the Church
education, health care, serving the poor.
Contemplative religious, however, spend a
major portion of their day in prayer, separating
themselves from the world in order to offer their
prayers and sacrifices for the needs of the
Church and the world. Through the years our
parish has been blessed by the prayer, work
and sacrifice of many religious; let us continue
to pray for them and for their various ministries.

This weekend I am out of town for a little

R&R, but I am grateful to Father Daniel for his
willingness to step in and cover our weekend
schedule of masses.

marginalized and the imprisoned, and

you may pick one up on the table in the church
vestibule.

Thursday, February 9, 10:30 a.m.

Lunch: Pizza & Ice Cream
Program: 2nd Grade Singers
Theme: Magnificent Twelve

STEWARDSHIP MOMENT
In this weekends readings and psalm, the prevailing
theme is that of light: We are the light of the world;
our light breaks forth like the dawn; our light shines in
the darkness; our light reflects generosity and justice.
Good stewards know they are the lamp, and Christ is
the flame that, through them, illuminates the earth.
They know that they carry Christs light in their hearts,
and let it shine through their words and deeds. What
are we doing to shine Christs light on the hungry, the
homeless and others most in need of Gods mercy?
How do we exercise good stewardship over the light
of Christ that burns within each of us?

ADORATION
Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will be held in
Saturday, February 11 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
in the chapel.
Come to me, all you who labor and are
burdened, and I will give you rest.
