Lady Godiva
Lady Godiva is a famous legend from 11th century England. Lady Godiva's husband
was Leofric. He was a lord and the most important man in the city of Coventry. He was
a cruel man. He told the people to give him lots of money, so life was difficult for them.
Lady Godiva asked him many times to stop. She saw that the people were unhappy, but
Leofric never listened.
One day, Leofric was angry because Lady Godiva asked him many times about the
money. He agreed to stop asking for it if she agreed to ride though the city of
Coventry wearing no clothes! It was very difficult for Lady Godiva but she said 'yes'.
However, there was a surprise.
When she was riding through the city, she wasn't wearing any clothes, but the streets
were empty. The people of Coventry stayed indoors. They closed their doors and
windows to help her. Only one selfish boy watched while she was sitting on her horse,
and his name was 'Peeping Tom'.
