Principals Message
It has been a great start to the 2017 school year! January was a fun and
exciting month here at Forest Grove Elementary. We look forward to many
more personal achievements and great learning as the year progresses. As
we move into the end of winter and into spring, we have many exciting
events planned for the coming months.
Although we have had recent unseasonably warm weather, I am sending
out a quick reminder to parents to please make sure that students dress
appropriate to the weather conditions as winter is still very much in effect. Also, make sure
to check out our school website for school information at
www.forestgroveelementary.weebly.com for important information. Please contact the school
anytime with any questions that you may have. I wish everyone a fantastic 2017!

End of Year Field Trip Fundraising

We are doing a coin drive to raise money for the end of year field trip. This year, Mr.
Brogan has agreed that if the students can raise at least $250.00 in coins, he will dress
up for a full day as CAPTAIN UNDERPANTS!!! Please send any spare change to school to
donate to the fund so that we can see Mr. Brogan dress up in this hilarious fashion!

Moccasin and Drum Making!

The grade 2-4 class will be making moccasins with Mike Case this month and into early
March. The Intermediate class will be making drums in the early spring. This promises to be
a very interesting and educational project for all!

School Wide Art Project

Starting this month, students will begin working on a school wide art project. This will be a
fun project aimed at bringing everyone together to create a lasting, beautiful welcoming
board to our school made out of glass mosaics. This board will be a place where we will
celebrate our monthly great things. The project is aimed at creating a greater sense of
belonging for our students and community. Mr. Brogans parents (Marina and Dan) who are
both retired teachers and professional artists will be leading this. Parents and community
members are encouraged to take part. Please contact the school for more details.

Thank You
We would like to extend a big thank you to Safeway for donating turkeys and gingerbread
houses to our school over the Christmas Season. We also want to thank all of the parents
and community members for your ongoing support in our food and safe arrival programs. A
particularly big thank you to Emma for all of her hard work in regards to the hot lunch
program this month.

Family Day
Monday, February 13th is Family Day. We hope all families will enjoy spending
quality time with family and friends. Lake of the Trees Bible Camp is hosting a
Family Day event with skating, hockey, sledding, water slide luge and bonfires.
Hot drinks as well as a soup and a bun lunch will be provided. Enter for a
chance to win a free week of camp. Suggested donation is $10.00 per person
or $40.00 per family. The event runs from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. For more
information contact Jody or Tom at www.lakeothetrees.com

Girls Basketball Tournament in Horse Lake

The grades 5-7 girls basketball team will be going to Horse Lake to play in the Big School
girls grade 6 basketball tournament on Thursday February 23 rd. This is exciting as it is the
first year that we have sent a full girls team to the big school side of the tournament. Good
luck girls!

Cross Country Skiing For Grades 2-4

The grades 2-4 class will be going cross country skiing at the 99 Mile Cross Country ski area
on February 10th and 16th. This will be a fantastic opportunity for our students to learn how to
cross country ski.

March 8th. Please check your childs student planner for menu

Pink Shirt Day

Bullying is a topic that we take very seriously in our schools,
workplaces, homes and over the internet. Over the next few weeks
we will be helping raise awareness of these issues. February 22nd,
2017 (the last Wednesday in February) is National Pink Shirt
Day . Students will spend the afternoon participating in various anti-
bullying activities. We encourage all of you to wear something pink
to symbolize that we as a society will not tolerate bullying anywhere!

Skating
Students will be going skating on February 21st from 8:30 am to 11:30 a.m. in
100 Mile House. Parents are reminded to also send helmets and mittens with
your children. Permission forms will go home later in the month. Parents are
reminded that there is an outdoor skating rink on Bakken Road, behind the
hardware store. Thank you to the volunteer firemen and community members
for making and maintaining this rink!

End Gang Life Program Presentation

On Monday, February 6th, our school will be visited by members of the RCMP and guest
speakers from the End Gang Life program. This presentation will talk to the intermediate
(grades 5-7) students about the importance of good decision making and the pitfalls of poor
decision making. Part of this presentation will be a talk by former gang associate who warns
students about the importance of not making poor decisions and the consequences that can
occur if students do not make good choices as the move into their adolescents. This
presentation will be accompanied by an RCMP member from Prince George. This is supposed
to be a compelling and very engaging presentation that comes with high reviews and fits
well into covering aspects of the intermediate curricular content. If you have any issues with
your child taking part in this presentation, please contact the school prior to Mondays
presentation.
