DATE/TIME/SETTING OBSERVATION
OCTOBER 22, 2013 Sebastian got in the playroom with his mother and after
9:30AM saying her goodbyes she left him. I approached him and
PLAYROOM he did not pay attention to me and kept playing. But
when he was crying which I took as a sign that he was
hungry, I gave him his bottle of milk which eventually
led to him making me carry him all the time. He did not
necessarily talk but he approaches me when he needs to
be carried. He cries when other people except Teacher
Liza, carries him.
10:30AM It was snack time. Teacher Liza taught him to handle and
EATING AREA eat the biscuit properly and he was able to follow. He
was the one holding his food when it was a biscuit but he
needed assistance on eating the cheese bar.
INTERPRETATION
Based on Erik Eriksons Psychosocial Theory, Sebastian is
undergoing the stage of Trust versus Mistrust. He did not
know me yet therefore he did not let me held him. Trust as
defined by Erikson is "an essential truthfulness of others as
well as a fundamental sense of one's own trustworthiness."
By the action of feeding him, he learns that I am someone
he can trust because I responded when he cried which
made me gain his trust. The others did not show signs to
Sebastian to be able for them to gain his trust that is why
he cries when they carry him. Meanwhile Sebastian had
known Teacher Liza for a long time.
He immediately obliged in eating and was able to handle
the biscuit properly without Teacher Liza watching. Based
on Piagets Developmental Theory, Preoperational Stage,
she was able to develop nonreversible thinking in which
she is capable of learning new things, capable of
reestablishing the original condition after a change by the
reverse of the change.
1:00PM Sebastian plays with many kinds of different toys. He Based on Piagets Theory of Cognitive Development, in

reactions, novelty, and curiosity, it is where he learns to
interact with his environment. "They become intrigued by

child at this juncture as the "young scientist," conducting
pseudo-experiments to discover new methods of meeting
challenges.
