The need to learn, develop and the curiosity to understand the world has

made humans transform from a primitive being to a human that travels

through space. Mechanical Engineering has been the backbone of mankind's
development and it will continue to be so. It was integral in the past with its
presence evident in most of the inventions. The combustion engine, a product
of Mechanical engineering, was the fuel to the growth of the automobile
industry. The spacecraft ,which again is a product of Mechanical Engineering,
is the very sole reason which has enabled humans to understand so much
about the universe. This is why I know that the future holds more outlook for
Mechanical Engineering. The scope for knowledge and development in this
field is vast, especially in this constantly fast paced evolving world.
Understanding all the concepts, in this field will help in solving the energy-
crisis which the todays world faces. This has ignited a desire in me to pursue
a Masters course in Mechanical Engineering at your prestigious University,
which I believe will provide me with the best possible platform for paving a
solid pathway to finding a solution for this energy crisis.

My interest in Mechanical engineering started right from the tender age of 8. I

was always intrigued by the mechanism of cars and airplanes as a young kid.
I used to roam frequently around in my father's Yamaha RX100 bike. Its
innards puzzled me back then. All of these confusions had fueled my ambition
to explore the concepts behind these machines. To take my ambition forward,
I had to have a proper understanding of mathematics, physics and chemistry.
The initial platform for my quest started in my higher secondary school
Chettinad Vidyashram, Chennai where I specialized in computer science
combined with physics, chemistry and mathematics that helped me in solving
logical problems closely related to day-to-day life. It was during this time that
my interests in Thermodynamics and fluid mechanics increased and my
determination to contribute in these fields increased.

The initial platform for my quest was laid in my higher secondary school
Chettinad Vidyashram, Chennai where I specialized in computer science
combined with physics, chemistry and mathematics. Not only did I learn

In my third year, I was part of the Efficyle team of my college. Having proven
my worth in college level events, SAE-Efficycle provided me with the
opportunity to test my skills in a national level competition. The teams
participating in the event had to a build a three-wheeled cycle which runs on
both mechanical and electrical power. The competition was designed to find a
sustainable replacement for the fossil fuel powered vehicles. Our team of 10
members worked over six months to get our vehicle manufactured. I was a
part of designing the power and transmission subsystem. Apart from
strengthening my understanding of the core subjects, it also immensely
taught me the importance of team work, determination and hard work. At the
end over the competition of 100 teams, our team had finally secured an all
India ranking of 24.

Concepts taught in classrooms becomes more clear when they are actually
seen being applied to real life scenarios. Hence inplant training played an
important role in strengthening my perception of the fundamentals. At the
end of second year, I did two implants, each for a duration of one week. My
first implant was in UCAL FUEL SYSTEMS Ltd.. The company specialized in
the manufacture of bike carburetors and is one of the leading manufacturers
in the world. My next implant was at HYUNDAI MOTOR INDIA, Chennai
where I witnessed the manufacturing of various cars such as i10, Verna, i20
etc., from their initial stage to the final testing stage. In both of my inplants, I
saw manufacturing and assembly process that I had learnt before only in my
class-room. This experience gave me an idea of the process and also showed
the problems that one might face while performing such techniques. This
helped in strengthening my analytical thinking skills.
