What We Did, Whats Coming Up:

Language Arts:
Writing: We read the book I Love My Hair by Natasha Tarpley last week and began to write about
something about ourselves that we love! We wrapped these writings up and they are displayed in
the hallway. If you happen to be at BWES, check them out! Students worked hard at listening to the
sounds within words, using the word wall to spell sight words (I, a, love, in, and, of, the, and to), putting spaces
between words, and trying to write with lowercase letters.
Handwriting: All capital letters and all lowercase letters! We will continue to work on our handwriting throughout the rest of
the year.
Math:
This week we played some different number games that had us think critically about different ways to make that number.
We played Toss the Chip, Racing Bears, and Double Compare. We also brought back one of our favorite centers: pattern
beads to make bracelets, rings, or snakes! We counted to 100 by 1s, 10s, and 5s for the 100th day of school and did a lot
of activities on the 100th day that involved the number 100.

Science:
We investigated matter through different experiments (one worked, one did not!). We really felt like scientists trying to see if
the experiments would work, and talked about how to change our process next time so that our experiment might work.
We traced our shadows outside and saw that on a cloudy day shadows are not as strong to see. We also built some
structures with blocks and traced their unique shadows in our journals. Next week we will wrap up matter and shadows and
begin to discuss weather. We will talk about tools we use to measure weather and how we can track weather patterns.
