Term Paper Submission #1 1) Working Solo: Leyi (Alice) Shi 2) Topic: Physical Activity a. Potential Question(s): To what extent does diet impact mental wellness? Is the relationship between the two linear or even exponential? Does there appear to be a threshold? How has todays fast-paced world transformed diet and nutrition from a time of pleasure to one of basic necessity? 3) Why is this important? a. Since we are investigating individual responsibility versus structural constraint, I want to see how much people in different social hemispheres are impacted by their nutrition intake. I am most curious in seeing if there is a limit to how much nutrition can impact an individuals attitude. This issue is important due to the increasing amount of time put into eating food that is made fast and healthy since todays fast-paced environment only fuels the idea that eating has become more of a necessity to certain kinds of people rather than pleasure. For example, I have seen more people opt for an entire diet on soylent to accommodate for their busy schedules while maintaining their nutrient intake. Even in my life, I have noticed a significant change growing up in the amount of emphasis put on having a family dinner; the idea is almost nonexistent now aside from holiday dinners (it has been increasingly less important as I grew up and almost became a time that I personally treasured). I think nutrition has always been a necessity but the amount of time placed on receiving nutrition has been impacted by both individual responsibility and the structural constraints placed on these individuals. I want to explore the extent to which both of these variables have on the nutrition intake of people in different professions, social hemispheres, and parts of their life.
