Question 4
Read the poem below carefully. Then, answer questions (a) (d).
Whats Red?
Red is sunset
Blazing and bright.
Red is feeling brave
With all your might.
Red is a sunburn
A spot on your nose.
Sometimes red, is a red, red, rose.
Red squiggles out when you cut your hand.
Red is a brick
And the sound of a band.
Red is hotness
You get inside
When youre embarrassed
And want to hide.
Fire-cracker, fire-engine
Fire-flicker red -
And when youre angry
Red runs through your head.
Red is an Indian
A Valentine heart,
The trimmings on
A circus cart.
Red is a lipstick
Red is a shout
Red is a signal
That says, Watch out!
Red is great big
Rubber ball.
Red is the giant-est
Colour of all.
Red is a show-off.
No doubt about it -
But can you imagine
Living without it?

Question 6
(Suggested answer)
Deepavali is celebrated annually by the Hindus in Malaysia. It is also known as the Festival of Lights.
This festival symbolises the triumph of good over evil. Preparation for Deepavali starts a few weeks
earlier. Hindus will start cleaning the house, putting up new curtains and replacing old furniture.
Families will make traditional cakes, sweet delicacies, biscuits and other special treats. This is also the
time to buy new clothes. The interior of the house is repainted and decorated. Decorative lights and oil
lamps are placed outside the house at the entrance.
On Deepavali morning, everyone starts the day with a bath and new clothes. The older folk
visit the temple to offer prayers. Then, they have a grand breakfast with Indian delicacies such as curry,
Indian pancakes and hot coffee or tea. Soon, the guests start arriving. Families will be kept busy
serving their guests. The day ends with the children and adults playing fireworks.
The celebration of Deepavali and other festivals in Malaysia is important in cultivating
neighbourliness. The open house concept has become a special Malaysian way of life. It is a symbol
of our warm hospitality. It is a great way for the different races to get to know each other and to spend
public holidays meaningfully.
