I Reading Comprehension
A. Read what the following article says about Flynn McGarry.

1 Some people do not find their true

calling until late in life, but at age 13, Flynn
McGarry knows that his passion is food.
He began cooking when he told his
5 mom at age 11 she was not such a great
cook. Fortunately, mom Meg McGarry
wasnt offended and supported his cooking
ambitions. She bought him cookbooks and
showed him internet recipes. McGarry said,
10 It was after looking at all these cookbooks
and going on the internet and looking at all
these dishes that I thought, I could achieve
that one day. He started cooking just for
his family. Ive always been very creative,
15 and I wanted to create my own dishes, and I didnt know too much about it, but
I would do variations from different cookbooks and would cook them for my
family. He added, Then, I started tasting the creative part of it, and started to
cook for more people than just my family.
He and his mom put his cooking skills to the test by opening Eureka, a
20 dinner club that hosts monthly dinner parties in their home. They built a test
kitchen inside his bedroom, just two tables and a couple of gas burners. When
he was thirteen his sister went off to college and he moved into her room. His
old room was restored into a complete new and modern kitchen and his mother
became the general manager and dishwasher, as she calls herself.
25 At Eurekas, Flynn creates between ten and seventeen courses for the
meal. The food is characterized as progressive American, based on the
molecular gastronomy style of cooking. Flynn uses culinary chemicals to
improve the presentation and taste of his dishes, and said, food shouldnt be
one-dimensional it should taste good and also be interesting and almost
amusing, like dinner theatre. An example of a dish that his guests particularly
love is a cod cake (cod, potatoes, olive oil, and garlic) which is deep-fried until
it has a thin, crunchy crust; this is accompanied by a tomato-sauce and a
spinach pudding. Flynn really appreciates tasting dinners because he thinks
1
that, the first bite is always the best. At Eureka, you eat one dish and think,
wow, that was delicious! and then a few moments later, a different but equally
delicious dish is served. (http://www.irishcentral.com/culture/food-drink/15-year-old-Flynn-McGarry-
