AISD has set up a Facilities Master Plan task force and is asking for public input in the form of
a survey. This survey covers topics that directly impact our schools and facilities. Your voice is
important. Please take the time to fill it out. You can find it at the AISD main web page or go to:

Calling all AMD parents… An amazing experience awaits LASA students this summer in
Keystone, Colorado (see youthpolicysummit.org). It is an opportunity for leaders to emerge, a
phenomenal resume item for students, and for many, has provided internships and jobs both
during and after college. Keystone works hard to keep the cost to schools down and had applied
for a grant from AMD, but AMD is not accepting any new grant applicants this year.
AMD does offer a matched giving program to its employees, and has asked us to reach out to our
AMD parents. Please consider helping to support the students who will be attending The
Keystone Center this summer by participating in AMD's Employee Giving Program which
leverages employee and company resources for maximum community benefit and extends the
reach of AMD’s corporate giving program. AMD matches employees’ contributions of money to
approved nonprofit organizations and schools up to $3,000 per year per employee.
If you can help please contact LASA teacher Claire Barrett (Claire.barrett@austinisd.org) or
Jeremy Kranowitz, Director Educational Excellence Programs (jkranowitz@keystone.org)

PFLASA NEWS!
PFLASA wants to thank everybody that helped make this another great year at LASA. Whether
it was by providing support, driving students to activities, donating money, giving time, sharing
skills and knowledge with students, or lending a helping hand, the LASA community has helped
make this year a successful one. Thank you to parents, teachers, administration and students!
Congratulations to the graduating seniors and their parents - Best of luck to all of you in your
future endeavors! Welcome back, to those senior parents who will stay with us because they have
incoming freshmen -- we are glad to have you longer!
The first PFLASA meeting of the 2010-2011 school year will be on Friday, 9/3 at 8:00 a.m. in
the library. Have a great and safe summer. See you in the fall!
Lots of LASA (LOL) takes a break during the summer, so this is the last LOL of this academic
year. We will resume again at the beginning of August with lots of information to start off the
year. SPECIAL THANKS TO KAREN FOREE, LASA parent and Principal Sanchez'
exceptional Secretary for her editorial and organizational skills in getting LOL ready every
Sunday night all year long!! Her contributions are truly appreciated! (editors note: This is truly a
team effort and would never make it to you with out the contributions of many, many people!)
Remember that you can continue to update the carpool database during the summer. Go
to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/pflasa/ and click on "Database" on the left. Then click on
"Carpool Database" and enter your information. In order to access it you need to have a Yahoo
account and be on the PFLASA list serve group. The database is a resource tool for you to contact
potential carpool partners and for them to contact you. You may want to check it frequently as
new people add their information. Questions? Contact Ana Irizarry at atirizarry2@gmail.com.

PFLASA INVESTS IN LASA - Thank you!!! The PFLASA community has given generously
all year long to make the LASA program an even stronger one.
Financial contributions, volunteer hours, in kind donations, have all made a big difference across
the campus. As a consequence of everyone's generosity, PFLASA has made significant
investments over this past academic year including the purchase of:
11 digital cameras and 12 digital voice recorders for Ezine;
2 digital voice recorders for Journalism;
an extensive investment in Biotechnology;
38 transect lines, 6 binoculars, and 40 field guides for Planet Earth;
books and DVDs for Model UN, Facing History, and Government;
memberships for LOTE classes which enabled our students to take national level exams;
music and guest musicians for Orchestra;
drying rack and storage cabinet for Fine Arts,
6 digital projectors and 2 elmos for shared use;
after school tutoring in conjunction with UTeach;
and pending purchases of entire classroom sets of certain textbooks for math, LOTE, and English; along
with additional technology support.
PFLASA also invested in $100 teacher stipends for every teacher,
professional development support for over 13 teachers;
support for campus community building events such as Field Day, Paint-a-Pumpkin, Coffeehouse,
Freshmen Picnic, Sophomore and Junior Class Ice Cream Socials;
support for recruiting and welcoming efforts such as LASA Road Show and ZIP Code Parties;
and last, but not least, underwriting all of LASA's pre-graduation celebration, Senior Salute!

We could not have done this without all of your generous support and enthusiasm for the LASA
community! Thank you for your continued investment...and have a safe and wonderful summer!

for pizza, desserts and lemonade. Eilers Park is located at 401 Deep Eddy Ave., 78703. Parking is
limited in the lot, so carpooling is a good idea. There is also street parking on Stephen F. Austin
Drive near Eilers Park. Bring your swimsuit and $2(teenagers) or $3(adults) if you want to swim
in Deep Eddy pool. After 3 p.m., there won't be any adult supervision for students. Call Sonia

The Magnet Program at Kealing Middle School is celebrating its 25th anniversary Sept. 25,
2010, from noon until 4 p.m. The purpose of the celebration is to reconnect former Kealing
students, families and teachers and to build a community that extends beyond its current students,
families and teachers. In broader terms, it is also a celebration of the AISD magnet program. The
planning committee is seeking former staff and alumni to attend and/or share their "story" as part
of the celebration. The celebration, at Kealing Middle School, will include many fun and
educational activities for teens and adults. If interested in receiving more information on the event
or assisting in communicating with alumni, please contact CelebrateKealing@gmail.com. If you
are a former staff member, please contact kjhsstaff@gmail.com for more information on events
planned specifically for teachers and staff.
