Gender inequality has always been a subtle topic worldwide.

Women are
viewed as emotional whilst men are capable of making firm decisions.
Clichs like this happen globally every day. Even in the Philippines, in the
past we practice that women should only do domestic work. Nowadays it
is evident that participation of women in the mainstream workforce is
continuously increasing. Gender inequality is most commonly found at
workplaces. Very often they are denied of fair pay or equal pay. Even in
corporate environment women have to face various challenges. The Glass
ceiling effect is also believed a reason for inequality against women. Glass
ceiling effect refer to the invisible barrier that obstruct a women to rise to
higher position in spite of having merits on the basis of education, ability
and part tract records. (Chamaria, 2015)

In the two videos shown it surprised me that there are still cultures that let
the women have the full leadership in a certain community. In the Mosou
culture women do the work to earn for a living, has the honor to inherit
and do walking marriage. Obviously the Mosuo women work way harder
than men. Personally I am not in favor with their walking marriage
because as a young woman I have my personal point of view regarding
the matter and also it is very bias to their men. Even one of the men
stated that walking marriages are best for men. It also leaves me
wondering if there are cases of STDs reported in the area. However they
earned my respect because it shows us how this people carefully obeyed
there culture and was able to pass it down to the younger generation. In
Samburu Kenya particularly the tribe of Umoja (Land of no Men), women
are forced by their situation to stand up for their rights because in the
Samburu culture women are treated as properties. Women gained their
independence by generating their own income. Its nice that they made
an effort by educating their young ones, enlightening them. These women
are still vulnerable if men start to raid there home. Other tribes are now
rising up in Samburu because they are enlightened as to what are the
privileges the women should have.

Women Empowerment refers to strengthening the social, economic and

educational powers of women. It refers to an environment where there is
no gender bias and has equal rights in community, society and
workplaces. (Work, 2015)Still lets face it that there are some things that
women can do and man cant and vice versa by having this in mind and
keeping an unbiased perception about others, perhaps it really is a better
world after all.
