PROJECT #1

I choose to do my project on the Christian religion. Followers of this religion believe in

the testimonies of the bible, which holds stories and prophecies of the Old and New Testament.
Christians believe that God is the creator of Heaven. Earth, and Hell. They believe in the Trinity,
which is God the Father, Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and the Holy Spirit. Christians believe
that Jesus was crucified on the cross and then resurrected from the dead. Most importantly they
believe in Christs second coming, judgement day, and salvation of the faithful believers.
Christians celebrate Christmas, which they believe to be the birth of Jesus Christ, and Easter,
which is believed to be the day Jesus was resurrected from the dead.
When I attended the church everyone was very welcoming and some even came up to
greet me. I went with my daughter as this was her first time going to a Christian church. She
asked many questions and I answered as much as I could. First the choir started off with songs
from the hymn and then they passed around an offering basket, which you can put your tidings
in. Christians believe that you should give 10% of your earnings. After songs and offerings, the
Pastor, which is the leader of the congregation, to give his sermon. He reads from the bible
teachings of how every Christian should live their life daily in order to go to Heaven after a
person dies. I thought it was a good experience for me and my daughter as well. Although
Christianity is not my belief, I still thought it was a good learning experience.
I think the value theory in the Christian culture is that Human Nature is a mixture of good
and evil. Christians believe that there is redemption for those who do bad deeds because God is
an all forgiving God as long as we ask for forgiveness and that all men are equally loved in
Gods eyes. Christians believe that all humans are Gods children and that we are all brothers and
sisters. Christians tend to have short-term orientation which means, Those with a short-term
orientation are concerned with possessing the truth, focus on quick results in endeavors, and
recognize social pressure to conform.(Intercultural Communication. Pp. 109)
The Pastor preached about forgiveness of first ourselves and of others when they do us
wrong. He then goes to say that to hold a grudge is unchristian and in order to be more like Jesus
we have to learn forgiveness. He also teaches about the evils of temptation and those who will
seduce us to do evil. What the Pastor preached was in line with their value theory in believing
that not all humans are good and teaches us to be good, but that there is evil out there also.
When read that I had to do this project I have to admit I was a little annoyed by it if I had
to be truthful. Since I am so busy I felt like having to do a project at this time was going to be a
hassle for me, but in the end I was glad I got to have the experience especially with my daughter.
I got to expose her to another belief than one of our own culture. I have always known about
Christianity from friends who are Christians. I have many friends who believe in many different
religion and I feel that I can respect any religion that teaches kindness to all humanity and living
your life without causing harm to others. My attitude definitely changed throughout the project
because I learned so much going to the church. Even though I was out of my element, I have a
renewed respect for those who stay so faithful with things that they cannot see or touch.
Sometimes for me I feel as though it is hard to believe in something that is not backed by science
or something I cannot physically see and feel myself. I think I can use this in the future because
it has taught me to step outside my comfort zone. To see experience all religions and cultures for
myself in order to discover for myself what my belief is. This well help me with future endeavors
because it has taught me to see from the other side and venture to experience something new. It
can become a learning experience in the end.
