Southern Railway, Park Town, Madras-600 003. Sub: Speed certificate for running of Rajdhani type of trains with WAP1 class of AC electric locomotives between New Delhi and Madras. Ref: This office letters of even No. dt. 30.12/92 & 2.7.93. As desired by South Central Railway, to reduce the journey time of North-South “Rajdhani Type" trains hauled by WaPl locomotives, route proving runs were conducted on Balharshah - Bellampalli section at 120 km/h with WAPL locomotive. The results as contained in R.D.S.0.'6 Mech. Engg. Investigation Report No. MR-424 of June, 1993 indicate that WAP] locomotive is fit to run upto a maximum speed of 120 km/h on Balharshah Bellampalli section of S.C.Rly. : In view of the above, speed certificate issued vide this office letters under reference shall be modified as follows: Para 2 shall be replaced with the following : "2. Based on the results of the above investigations and trials, it is certified that the operation of single WAPl AC electric locomotive hauling upto 19 ICF all coil air-braked coaches on New Delhi - Madras section may be permitted upto a maximum speed of 130 km/h between New Delhi - Lalitpur, 120 km/h between Lalitpur— Bellampalli and 110 km/h between Bellampalli - Madras subject to the following conditions : aa 1 ow para “Wherever points and crossings in station yards are of 90R rail, maximum speed upto 120 km/h is permitted temporarily with following stipulations. i) All stock rail joints shall be welded and shifted atleast one rail length ahead. a ii) The rails shall be ultrasonically tested at closer intervals, the frequency of which shall be decided by Chief Engineer depending upon the condition of rail. iii) Points and crossings shall be maintained to “the standard as per para 237 of IRPWM." Para 2.4 pertaining to "Signalling" shall be relaced with “2.4 Signalling z For maximum speed of 120/130 km/h 2.4.1 Multi-aspect colour light signalling shall be provided. Two distant signals - one located 1 km in advance of the home signal and the 2nd located 2 km in advance of the home Signal shall be provided. Sighting boards shall be dispensed with. 2.4.1.1 An auxiliary Warning System can be provided in lieu of the second distant signal, Track devices/magnets located 800 metres in advance of the distant signals would be used to give an audio-visual indication to the driver, as also to control the speed of the train, if required. 2.4.2 The above shall also be applicable to interlocked level crossing gate located in the block section. 2.4.3 Where the second distant signal is not continuously visible from 800 metres under normal conditions, suitable speed restrictions shall be imposed by the, CSTE/Chief Safety Officer. 2.4.4°° ALL the manned level crossing gates shall be connected with adjacent station through a magneto telephone.
