WHEREAS,aspartoftheMissionandMandatetheJerseyCityBoardofEducationfostersSchoolClimatetoensureasafe,
wellmaintained,nurturingenvironmentthatmeetsthesocial,emotionalandintellectualneedsofallstudentsand

WHEREAS,inkeepingwithitsMissiontheJerseyCityBoardofEducationisopentoallstudentsbetweentheagesoffive
andtwentyresidingintheCityofJerseyCitypursuanttotheEqualProtectionClauseoftheFourteenthAmendmentto
theConstitutionoftheUnitedStates,Plylerv.Doe,457U.S.202(1982),andNewJerseyStatelaw,N.J.S.A.18A:381,
regardless of race, color, national origin, citizenship, or immigration/visa status of their parents or guardians, N.J.A.C.

WHEREAS,consistentwiththerequirementsoffederalandStatelawtheJerseyCityBoardofEducationdoesnotrequire,
requestnormaintaininformationconcerningtheimmigrantorvisastatusofthestudentsinordertoenrollstudentsin
theJerseyCityPublicSchoolsnowthereforebeit

RESOLVED, that the Jersey City Board of Education hereby reaffirms its Mission and Mandate to ensure that every
student,regardlessofgender,ethnicity,language,cultureoreconomicstatushasequalaccessandequalopportunitytoa
rigorous, researchbased, comprehensive education and its Constitutional obligation to provide equal access and
opportunityregardlessofrace,color,nationalorigin,citizenship,immigrationorvisastatusofthestudentspursuantto
theEqualProtectionClauseoftheFourteenthAmendmenttotheConstitutionandNewJerseyStateLaw.
