Grade Level: 4th grade Content Area: Math (fractions) Beyond-the-Basic Productivity Tool Used: Glogster Standards Addressed: CCSS.Math.Content.4.NF.B.3a Understand addition and subtraction of fractions as joining and separating parts referring to the same whole. Blooms Level of Critical Thinking:
Remembering Understanding Applying Analyzing Evaluating Creating Description of how to implement in the class: I will teach the lesson from my glog that will be displayed on the SMARTboard. The lesson will be about fractions and how we can divide 1 whole into different amounts of pieces. In order to engage my students and get them involved, we will do an activity with clay and floss. Each student will be given a block of clay and a string of floss. During this activity we will be using the floss to cut the clay into different fractions of a whole. At first, I will encourage everyone to mimic me cutting the clay in half and in fourths. Then, I will encourage the students to continue cutting their piece of clay into EQUAL parts. This activity will give students a visual representation of what fractions are. Next, students will form math problems by adding their fractions of clay together. As an extension, Students will each create their own glog on glogster. Students will be instructed to include one addition problem and one subtraction problem using fractions in their glog as well as visuals and videos that go along with the specific math problems they choose. Students be encouraged to make their glog as unique and original as they can. This will allow students to use their own creativity to express their understanding of adding and subtracting fractions. Level of Technology Implementation (LoTi): This lesson reaches the LoTi level 4 because the teacher becomes the facilitator once the students move on to the glogster activity. Each student is given voice and choice because they are allowed to choose any math problem they want to explain. They become a teacher through their glog that they created. Description of the sample BBPT file provided *: Students will view my sample glog on the SMARTboard during my lesson on fractions. I will show students the different types of media that I included as I teach the lesson. My glog will be an example for students, who will be creating their own glog at the end of the lesson.
