BSMT3G Research1

1. How this research can contribute to your community?

To give knowledge to the people that there are bacterias developing
resistant to our last line of defense of antibiotics which is carbapenem.

2. What areas will you suggest for the future research?

Expand the target population for better surveillance of
Carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae.

3. What problems did you encounter while making your paper?

The biggest problem is time, because we are students with other
important subject to attend to.

4. Why did you choose those assays in your study?

Modified Hodge test is a simple test which can be performed in routine
lab for detection of carbapenemase in isolates showing intermediate or
sensitive zone diameter on disc diffusion.
Real time PCR identify amplified fragments during the PCR process and
it takes less time since it combines amplification and detection into a
single step.

5. Why did you choose Metro Manila as your setting?

Because the research is being done at Metro Manila.

6. How can your research study benefit other students?

Additional knowledge for students and reference for future researches.

7. Why did you choose this topic?

To alarm the public about multidrug resistant bacterias and what is the
reason/cause of this resistance.

8. What is the importance of having a primer prior to gene

amplification?
Because a primer serves as a starting point for DNA synthesis.

9. What could have caused the bacteria to have resistance to

carbapenems?
Due to overuse and misuse of antibiotics by people.

10. What are your important findings in your study?

The findings whether there are Carbapenemase-producing
Enterobacteriaceae in those selected tertiary hospitals in Metro Manila.

11. What makes you sure that the panelists are going to be
satisfied with your study?
Belleca, Frederick P. BSMT3G Research1

Because this study is for the people. Knowledge about drug resistance
will help us avoid misuse or over use of antibiotics and to lessen the
incidence.

12. What is the advantage of using real-time PCR in gene

amplification?
Because real-time PCR is known as the most powerful laboratory
technique ever discovered due to its sensitivity and specificity,
accurate results can be acquired.

13. What are the common bacteria commonly associated with

your study?
The common bacteria associated with the study are focused with
Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumonia.

14. How will you be able to get the sample?

A total of 100 samples will be collected from the selected tertiary
hospitals in Metro Manila. Laboratory personnel will be asked to save
clinical isolates identified as members of family Enterobacteriaceae
that shows resistance to carbapenems. Then sample will be then
transported to Centro Escolar University prior to testing.
