TWO-THIRDS of births to teenage girls nationwide
are fathered by adult men age 19 or older.
Statutory rape is an act of sexual intercourse with a minor.
Rape law is gender-neutral.
Both boys and girls can be victims.
Statutory rape can be charged as a misdemeanor
or felony, depending on the difference in ages.
A felony charge can be punished by up to 4 years in prison.
Persons 19 years or older who commit statutory rape
might face fines and civil penalties up to $25,000.
