INSTRUCTIONS: This section consists of three (3) questions. Answer only two (2)
questions in English Language in the answer booklet provided. Each question carries
20 marks.

1. a) A diver dives into the sea at a depth of 222 m. Calculate the total pressure on
the diver. ( seawater = 1040 kg/m3) [4 marks]

b) The King piece of a chess set is 6.7 cm tall at the initial temperature of 25 oC.
It is then heated to make it taller by 0.01 cm. The king is made of nylon.
{ nylon = 770 x 10 -6 o
C -1 }

i) Change the initial temperature(25oC) into Fahrenheit. [4 marks]

ii) Calculate the final temperature. [4 marks]

c) In an ultimate battle between Ultraman and Godzilla, both are equally


matched. But then Ultraman fires a high powered wave at Godzilla that kills it.
The equation for the wave is; y = 4.5 cos ( 111t + 22x ) m

2. a) A butterfly contains 2.2 x 1014 electrons and 3.5 x 1014 protons.

i. Calculate the total charge of the butterfly. [4 marks]

ii. Calculate the magnitude of the butterflys electric field at 45 mm away.


(Assume as point charge) [4 marks]

b) Pakcik Abu is an electrician who can make his own capacitors. He uses two
circular plates with c/s area of 0.015 m2 and fixes them by a 0.009 m gap.

i) If then Pakcik Abu inserts a Biskut Marie as the dielectric between


the plates, what is the capacitance now?
(k biskut marie= 2.2)

ii) If this capacitor with dielectric is now connected to a 9V battery, what


is the charge collected in the plates?

3. a) A worm is connected to a 9 V battery as shown below. The electrical current


through the circuit is 1.3 A. The resistivity constant for worm, = 2.5. Based on these
data,

i) Calculate resistance of the worm. [4 marks]

ii) Determine length of the worm if its c/s area is 0.05 m2. [4 marks]

b) The lines of a uniform magnetic field of 0.15 T points west (Figure 4).

i. Calculate the magnitude and direction of the magnetic force on a -75


C charged eagle an eagle flying straight up at 13.4 m/s.

ii. Calculate the magnitude and direction of the magnetic force on an


angled 1.2 m wire with 3.75 A current.
