Summary
This is a group project where the group of six members will be using the
supplied Lego Mindstorms 9797 kit to build an autonomous vehicle that will
be capable of navigating a complete maze. The group will test and refine the
robots functions through the supplied Mindstorms software, and we will be
using the Sheridan Davis campus Labs to conduct our experiments. Since we
cant touch any of the walls in the upcoming maze, we will not be able to
utilize the kit supplied touch sensors. As well we do not see how the sound
and light could be effectively used so we have concluded that we can only
use ultrasonic/distance sensors. This will make programing the robot more
difficult. We will also look for third party software capable of programing
faster and smarter. In the end we will be the fastest group through the maze.

Background
Robot is a human like machines that exists to serve their creators. Some
people may define as robots a dangerous technology which will someday
lead collapse humans. The earliest robots as we know them were created in
the early 1950s be George c. devol, an inventor from Louisville, Kentucky. He
invented a manipulator called unimate. After this the robot was further
modified by engineer who was known as the the father of robotics
[cse.stanford.edu]

After the generation by generations new models of robots were made and
sold out for human help. And now these robots are part of the human life,
who serve them as they are designed to. Working of the robots have made

our human life easy every day, as the whole difficult part is done by the
machine itself.

Detailed Plan
We aim to design a
simple cart chassis with
an ultrasonic sensor
attached on top of it.

Width=7,

Height=9,

Length=6

Why Ultrasonic
sensor?

Ultrasonic sensor can

actively find out the
distance between itself
and the object in front of it by sending ultrasonic signals. These signals hit
the object and reflect towards the sensor through which it can calculate the
distance.

The program

The program we are to create is using LEGO NXT software. There can be two
types of possible solutions

1. The cart moves on until there is no obstacle. If there is one, it will

rotate right and check for obstacle and then will rotate left and check
for obstacle. It will then move in the direction where there is no
obstacle.
2. The cart can be made to follow a maze wall, such that it can reach the
finish line.

We will work on these two programs simultaneously and see which one
comes out to be the fastest through the maze.

3
We have to consider the size of the robot because it should not be too big
and touch the walls when it tries to move or rotate, all the sensors have to
be calibrated to get proper functioning.

Conclusion
The main objective of the project is to pass the robot through the maze
without colliding with any of the walls and obstacles. The other aim is to
function the robot properly and should move on the proper path. It will also
be kept in mind that the robot does not collide with any of the walls or
obstacles. The robot would be tidy and organized. It will possess good
strength and robustness. The design of the project will not be more complex
and it will be done keeping in mind the weight of the robot. We have two
different ways to solve the maze and that would give us a chance to come up
with the fastest solution. The main objective of the project is to pass the
robot through the maze finish line the fastest without colliding with any of
the walls and obstacles.
