In the immediate aftermath of the assassination of
President John F. Kennedy, his wife Jacqueline Kennedy
(Natalie Portman) deals with her immense grief while mak-
ing plans for his funeral procession. Confiding in her close
friend and secretary Nancy Tuckerman (Greta
Gerwig), as well as her brother-in-law Robert Kennedy
(Peter Sarsgaard), Jackie tries to care for her young
family as a bereaved nation watches on.
April 23 Hacksaw Ridge
Desmond T. Doss is a World War II army medic who has
seen too much of the misery that violence causes first-
hand. As he strives to save badly injured patients from
dying, he finds that he is unwilling to inflict that kind of
damage to another person. Despite the pressures on
him to conform to the realities of war, Doss is adamant
about refusing to take up arms agains others. While he
faces many challenges, his stance eventually earns him
the respect of many as he becomes the first onscientious
Objector in American history to receive the Congressional
Medal of Honor.

RESIDENT PROFILE

Marcia and Jim Dowler

Jim and Marcia Dowler purchased a home in Sun City Fes-
tival almost nine years ago. However, we did not claim it
as our primary residence until 4-1/2 years ago after selling
our Palm Springs, California real estate company and home
- thereby ending a 25-year second career. During those
years, Jim served in various capacities on several hospital-
ity/tourism advisory boards/committees and was very active
with the Rotary Club of Palm Springs. Marcia served as
President of the year 2000 P.S. Regional Assn. of Realtors
and also served several years with the P.S. Soroptimist Club.
We were active with our church and participated in several
mission trips to Hungary, Honduras and Belize.

Our initial careers were both in the defense industry. Jims

first job out of graduate school landed him a desk in the
blockhouse of Pad 16 at Cape Canaveral working for Martin
Marietta on N.A.S.A.s Project Gemini. This site was situ-
ated between the Gemini and Mercury launch pads, an
exciting place to launch a career. A few years later he
moved to San Diego to work for Sperry Univac on U.S. Navy
contracts automating shipboard tactical data systems. Mar-
cia worked for North American Aviation, Philco Ford Aeronu-
tronics and ended that career with Hughes Aircraft - all in
Orange County.
Many people ask why the move to Arizona, from Palm
Springs of all places? We were well integrated into the
community having lived and worked there for 25 years. But,
when people retire, dont many choose to move somewhere
else? That was part of it. But, with an eye on the clock, it
was apparent that if we ever wanted to experience the ad-
venture of new places and new faces (and a new/different
desert to enjoy), this was the time. Tempus, it does have a
habit of fugiting.for all of us.
After being introduced to the 55+ community concept by a
friend who bought into a community near Tucson, we de-
cided to really check this out. Over maybe a three- year pe-
riod we visited as many of them in Southern California and
Arizona as possible. We took notes and did comparisons
of floor plans, prices, on-site amenities, area attractions,
general aesthetics, and geographic locations.

and grandchildren live. One of the key considerations was
that it presented a unique blend of big city and country
living - adjacent to the offerings of the sixth largest city
in the U.S. but geographically isolated and surrounded by
open desert. What keeps them ticking at Festival? We are
involved with the Car Club, the Players Club, the Off-Road
Interest Group, and have recently joined the Veterans Club.
Toss in some occasional golf, bocce, swimming, workouts,
walks, etc. Result? A busy, healthy, and fulfilling life style in
our retirement years.
Jim served in the Army Reserve between high school and
college. He is an avid OSU alumnus an ardent Buckeye in
Buckeye. He and Marcia currently serve at Luke Air Force
Base weekly and have been involved with several national
organizations - serving four branches of the armed forces
in volunteer capacities over the years. Currently, we serve
on the Advisory Board of the Sun City Corp (Salvation Army)
and Jim serves as Foundation Chair of the Rotary Club of
Sun City West. Rotary International projects and church-re-
lated activities have taken us to numerous countries around
the world and many lasting friendships have resulted.
These activities are important pieces in our lives as is peri-
odic church-based outreach projects within the local area.
We have concluded that Sun City Festival is a great place to
be at this point in our lives.
