Project Description

A. Context

College classes in MSU-IIT are often scheduled to start as early as seven in the
morning and sometimes end as late as nine in the evening. Usually in all these
cases, the schools canteens are closed, leaving some students with no place to buy
food to satiate their hunger. In the case of the students of College of Business
Administration and Accountancy (CBAA), they usually buy at the food stores of
neighboring colleges, which usually open only at nine in the morning and close as
early as seven in the evening. Based on the survey conducted among the students
of CBAA who eat breakfast, six out of seven eat either at home or at their boarding
house due to the fact that they cannot find any open food stores during that time.
Also, all of the students surveyed who have classes beyond seven thirty in the
evening feel the need to eat during the said time. Two-thirds of them, however,
cannot likewise find any open food store. Students, in both cases, all agree that
eating during these times is necessary for them to perform effectively. This paper
aims to propose a project that would provide the students of the said college a
place to easily buy food by placing vending machines to be purchased by the said
college in convenient and accessible places which are accessible and open at any
time. This project would also be a form of an income generating project of the
school with the earnings to be used for school purposes.

B. Problem Statement

Canteens inside the school premises are not yet open before seven oclock in the
morning and are already close at seven oclock in the evening. During these hours,
some students and employees have already gone to school without eating their
breakfast in the early morning, some may still have classes at work inside the
school until nine oclock in the evening, and some may even stay at school
overnight. Due to the unavailability of food during the said hours, students and
employees are left with no choice but to buy food and drinks outside school or even
opt to skip breakfast.

C. Objectives

To come up with a proposal that will respond the following:

To install sustainable vending machines in convenient and accessible

locations in the College of Business Administration and Accountancy
department
To provide students access to some foods and beverages at any time of the
day
To make various items available in the vending machines at reasonable prices
To secure added profits from the vending machines to be used for colleges
purposes
To improve student and employee performance

II. Project Implementation and Management Plan

A. Expected Project Results

After implementing this project, it is expected that students will be more

satisfied in their stay in MSU-IIT. They will be assured of available food any time of
the day. It is also expected that student tardiness will decrease since they may
come early at school with an assurance that they have something to eat. And since
the school will be funding this project, profits to be realized from the vending
machines may be used by the school for other purposes such as scholarship grants.
Demands for the school canteens may decline. However, this will lead them to be
more competitive especially in the length of their service hours. They may even
offer a wider variety of foods and beverages just to compete with the vending
machines. It is expected that this project may result to unintended garbage
problems due to the packaging of the items offered by the machines.

B. Project activities and work plan

Three vending machines will be placed in the college of business and

administration and accountancy building, one in the lounge area, another in the
department offices area and the last one outside one of the classrooms in the
second floor of the building. Here are the photos of the specific proposed locations:

(*insert photos of the locations*)

For the benefit of those students who usually gather to during their free times
before and after classes, the first location (CBAA Lounge) was chosen. The second
location (outside the college departments) on the other hand is primarily for the
staffs and faculties working in those departments. Lastly the third location (second
floor of CBAA building) was chosen for the students and teachers using the second
floor to have an easy access of the machines without having to go down the
building.
Here is a photo and the specifications of the vending machines to be placed:
(include estimated cost)

The machines will be maintained to one of the staff selected for the purpose
(who cleans, who changes the items, when to change..)

They will be purchased by the college and will be available for 24 hours. It will
thus be already open early in the morning for students who havent eaten breakfast
and also after seven in the evening, when most of the stores are already closed. The
food and drinks to be placed will be supplied by selected willing business partners.
The items that will be sold will be healthy and appropriate to be eaten as meal
substitute or simply as snacks. No prohibited food and drinks such as pork
containing food and alcoholic beverages will be offered by the machines. They shall
also be offered at reasonable prices that will sufficiently cover the costs to be
incurred, such as electricity, and are at the same time not too heavy to the students
and workers pockets. The earnings shall be divided between the college and the
suppliers as may be agreed by the two, with the earning share of the former to be
used as additional college funds to pursue further improvement in the educational
services provided.

C. Project Beneficiaries

The projects target group is the entire students of CBAA. It will also benefit
indirectly other colleges students as well as the faculty and staffs. The college will
also benefit from the profits generated to be used for other purposes. The college is
expected to take responsibility for the maintenance and repair of the vending
machines from time to time. In return, it is also expected that the beneficiaries will
cooperate in maintaining cleanliness by throwing their garbage in proper areas.

III. Project monitoring and evaluation
