Earvin Magic Johnson was named president of the basketball operation for the Los Angeles
Lakers. This was announced on Tuesday, February 21, 2017, two days before the NBA trade
deadline. Mitch Kupchak, longtime general manager, has been taking off his duties, along with
the vice president of basketball operations, Jim Buss.

Johnson has three won MVPs and has won five championships. Sources say that he is the
greatest point guard in NBA history. He is also a member of the of the United States Mens
Dream Team that won a gold medal in the 1992 Olympics.

Johnson owns a part of the Los Angeles Lakers. Two days after being named president of the
basketball operations of the team, he sold his share of the team.
