The Macaycayawan Agro-Forestry Development Association is one of the
youngest Peoples Organizations in Western Pangasinan. Young as it is, the
organization is one of the most responsive POs and its performance in the
implementation of NGP is praiseworthy, not only in physical accomplishment but
also on how they efficiently and effectively manage their organization.
A total of 124-hectare plantation was established by the association in
calendar year 2014 wherein 68 hectares were planted with Duhat and Cashew
(High-Value Fruit Trees, Fruit and the other 56 hectares were planted with Acacia
Auriculiformis, a species mainly used as fuelwood.
Before the development project was introduced in the area, the site was
considered an unproductive, degraded grassland dominated by Cogon and other
economically less important species. The community mainly derives its livelihood
thru farming of the limited agriculturally viable land area and from fishing in the
nearby Sual Bay.
The implementation of NGP in the locality has positively contributed to the
income of the families who participated in the program. As NGP progress from year
2015, significant number of jobs were created and increased the local employment
level.
If conditions remain sustained, more self-sufficient livelihood opportunities
await as the trees planted in the area grow and mature through time.

Bamban Kabuhayan 2000 Association, Inc. was awarded with a Community-
Based Forest Management area in year 1998 covering 181 hectares. The project site
can be reached by hiking 2 to 3 hours from the barangay proper.
When NGP took ground in year 2011, another 30-hectare area was awarded
to Bamban Kabuhayan 2000 Association, Inc. to develop the remaining open areas
in their CBFM. The organization was further strengthened when the association was
registered to DOLE, entitling them to another NGP area covering 156 hectares.
Just like the majority of planting sites in Western Pangasinan, areas being
developed by the association are highly degraded lands. These areas are sparsely
vegetated with native trees due to the composition of the soil, which is considered
rocky and can only support limited species of plants and trees. In this case, Agoho
and Batino were favoured because such species are proven to have the good
performance even in inferior soil conditions.
