2. Check continuity between door lock/unlock switch harness connector D6 (M31) terminals 8(1):PU,
9(2):GY and combination meter harness connector M21, M22 (M24, M25) terminals 42(28):PU,
29(25):GY.
8 (1) - 42 (28) : Continuity should exist.
9 (2) - 29 (25) : Continuity should exist.
M31 : without power window system
M21, M22: without tachometer
OK or NG?
OK >> GO TO 2
NG >> Check harness for open or short between power door lock switch and combination meter (unified
meter control unit).

1. Disconnect door lock relay and combination meter connector.
2. Check continuity between door lock relay harness connector M7 terminals 5:L/B, 6:L/Y and combination J
meter harness connector M24(M21,M23) terminals 21(51):L/Y, 22 (50):L/B.
6 - 21 (51) : Continuity should exist.

OK >> GO TO 3.
NG >> Check power supply circuit harness for open or short circuit.

3. DOOR LOCK RELAY GROUND CIRCUIT CHECK


Check continuity between door lock relay harness connector M7 terminal 2(B) and body ground.
: Continuity should exist.
OK or NG?
OK >> GO TO 4.
NG >> Check ground circuit harness for open or short circuit.

4. DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR CIRCUIT CHECK


1. Disconnect passenger door lock actuator connector.
2. Check continuity between door lock relay harness connector M7 terminals 1:BR/Y, 4:W/R and passenger
door lock actuator harness connector D25 terminals 3:BR/Y, 1:W/R.
1:BR/Y - 3:BR/Y : Continuity should exist.
4:W/R - 1:W/R : Continuity should exist.
OK or NG?
OK >> GO TO 5.
NG >> Check harness for open or short between door lock relay and door lock actuator.

5. COMBINATION METER (METER CONTROL UNIT) INPUT/OUTPUT SIGNAL CHECK


1. Connect door lock relay connector and combination meter connector.
2. Check voltage between door lock relay harness connector M7 terminal 5:LB, 6:L/Y and body ground.

tion meter (unified meter control unit) harness connector M22(M25) terminal 44(29):Y/L.
2 - 44 (29) : Continuity should exist.

OK >> GO TO 2.
NG >> Check harness for open or short between driver door unlock sensor and combination meter (uni-

Check continuity continuity between driver door unlock sensor terminals 1:B and 2:Y/L.

Loosen the hinge mounting bolts on body, then lift the rear end of the front door to adjust the clearance and
surface difference properly.

Check hinge rotating part for poor lubrication. If necessary, apply body grease.

4. Remove lower sash mounting bolts.

5. Pull the lower sash out of the front door sash.

8. Disconnect inside handle rod (on the door lock assembly).
9. Slide inside handle rearward and remove it through the hole in the door panel.
10. Remove lock knob rod from inside handle.
11. Separate the key cylinder rod on outside handle and outside handle rod at the joint.
12. Remove door lock actuator mounting bolts to disconnect the
connector.

REMOVAL
1. Remove sliding door finisher. Refer to EI-19, "DOOR FINISHER" .
2. Remove sealing screen.
NOTE:
If sealing screen is reused, cut butyl tape in a way that leaves it on the sealing screen.
3. Remove sliding door mounting bolts on lower roller assembly. A
4. Remove sliding door mounting bolts on rear roller assembly. Then, pull out rear roller assembly toward
rear of the vehicle. B
5. Move sliding door back and forth so that upper roller assembly comes into the cutout on sliding door upper
rail. Then, pull upper roller downward out of the cutout to disengage sliding door. C
6. Remove upper roller assembly mounting bolts to remove upper roller assembly from sliding door.
NOTE:
During removal of the sliding door assembly, use a jack to support the door. Place shop cloth or the like on the
jack plate to protect the door and body from damage.
INSTALLATION
Install in the reverse order of removal.
After installing the door assembly, perform fitting adjustment.
INSPECTION
Check the following. If required, replace or grease.
Check rollers and bearings for wear and damage.
Check inside of guide rails for proper greasing. If grease condition is poor, apply body grease.

VERTICAL/LATERAL CLEARANCE (SURFACE DIFFERENCE) ADJUSTMENT


1. With striker removed, loosen hinge mounting nuts on the back door and close it.
2. Make lateral clearance and clearance to rear window glass equal. Open back door to tighten mounting
bolts to specified torque.
3. After installing striker, check lateral clearance and clearance to rear bumper again.
4. If taking the steps above does not result in fine adjustment,
remove headliner and loosen the hinge mounting nuts on the
vehicle for further adjustment.

REMOVAL
1. Remove back door trim. Refer to EI-21, "BACK DOOR TRIM" . K
2. Remove sealing screen.
NOTE:
If sealing screen is reused, cut butyl tape in a way that leaves it on the sealing screen. L
3. Disconnect connectors in the back door and unclamp the harness. Pull the harness out of the back door.
4. Support the back door lock with a proper material to prevent it from falling, and remove back door stay

(gas stay) upper.
5. Remove back door stay lower.
6. Remove hinge mount nuts on the back door and remove back door assembly.
INSTALLATION
Install in the reverse order of removal.

INSPECTION
1. Check hinges for the following items:
Unusual noise or door closing and opening effort
Component wear or damage
2. Apply body grease to the rotating part of the hinge.

2. After installing, pull the weatherstrip lightly to check for looseness.
NOTE:
Make sure the weatherstrip is fit tightly at each corner and back door rear plate.

REMOVAL OF DOOR LOCK CONTROL ASSEMBLY


1. Remove back door trim. Refer to EI-21, "BACK DOOR TRIM" . H
2. Remove sealing screen.

3. Remove back door lock rod (on door lock control section).
4. Disconnect door lock actuator connector.
5. Remove mounting bolts to remove door lock control assembly. J

INSTALLATION OF DOOR LOCK CONTROL ASSEMBLY


Install in the reverse order of removal.
Install back door lock rod by turning the rod holder until the rod snaps in the holder with a clicking sound.
If greasing condition in each sliding section on door lock control assembly is poor, apply body grease.
After the installation, check for proper operation.

BACK DOOR LOCK

REMOVAL OF BACK DOOR LOCK


1. Remove mounting screws to remove back door inner lower
cover.
2. Remove back door lock rod (on door lock side).

3. Remove mounting bolt to remove back door lock cover.

4. Remove mounting bolts to remove back door lock.

Install in the reverse order of removal.


Install back door lock rod by turning the rod holder until the rod snaps in the holder with a clicking sound.
If greasing condition in each sliding section on door lock control assembly is poor, apply body grease.
After the installation, check for proper operation.

DISASSEMBLY
NOTE:
After removing door lock control assembly from vehicle, remove or
install actuator.
1. Remove door lock actuator mounting screws.
2. By pulling actuator down and to the right, separate it from door
lock.

ASSEMBLY
1. Assemble by aligning the actuator pivot with cutout on knob lever of door lock assembly. A
2. Move knob lever and actuator pivot in LOCK direction to ensure they are securely engaged.

When using a tracking gauge, adjust both pointers to equal length. Then check the pointers and gauge
itself to make sure there is no free play.
When a measuring tape is used, check to be sure there is no elongation, twisting or bending. C
Measurements should be taken at the center of the mounting holes.
An asterisk (*) following the value at the measuring point indicates that the measuring point on the other
side is symmetrically the same value. D
The coordinates of the measurement points are the distances measured from the standard line of "X", "Y"
and "Z".
