Scientific Experiment
What happens when you
soak an egg in vinegar
overnight?
Hypothesis
The egg will dissolve and become a foam.
Materials
A container
with a lid

One egg

Enough white
vinegar to
cover the egg
Procedure
Carefully place the egg into
the container

Slowly pour in enough

vinegar to completely cover
the egg

Close lid to container tightly

Set aside overnight

On the next day: Open

container and observe results
Results
Vinegar Soaked Egg Hypothesis

According to our hypothesis 2

we were all incorrect. The

egg did not dissolve, expand
or harden. Instead the shell
1.5

became almost like a rubber.

The egg was squishy but still 1

filled with runny yolk.

When the egg was bounced
the shell broke and 0.5

everything fell out. The shell

appeared to have shrunken
but was still very stretchy. 0

Conclusion
My original hypothesis was that the egg would dissolve and
become a foam. It seems that the vinegar was not powerful
enough to dissolve the egg. The result leaves me with many
additional questions.

What would happen if the egg was left in vinegar longer than
overnight?

If food coloring was added the the vinegar would it dye the egg?

Do all types of eggs result is the same outcome?

Perhaps there are more variations of this experiment to come
