FOREWORD - Hi This is Rabea. I would like to thank you for acquiring a copy of my 20
Funked Up Rock Licks package. I wanted to explore as much harmonic variation as possible
within a single key. Ive used rhythmic phrasing (something I believe is crucial to becoming a
great player) and some odd (but correct) notes. These licks will allow you to take a different
perspective on some familiar shapes and sounds, hopefully giving you a stronger sense of
rhythm and a unique harmonic angle to your playing.

By the way, I tuned down to Eb for the audio and video files, but all the chord and scale
names are written as standard tuning, for clarity.

The first lick uses an odd sound, swimming in the realms of the altered Locrian mode (E F G
A Bb C D). In the second half of the lick, the rhythm follows a descending sextuplet feel. The
trick is to highlight the rhythmic accents, in this case the first note in each group of six.
