This assesses content knowledge and disciplinary skills and can be both
criterion-referenced and non-criterion-referenced. Often occurs after
instruction at key stages (eg. End of unit or year). Examples of assessment of
learning are: unit tests, exams, portfolios.
I think that instruction, feedback and assessment all play a role within
one another in a students learning. Feedback enables students to
understand their mistakes positively, which allows them to do better on their
next tasks. The students can take the feedback to better themselves in
whatever type of assessment they are being asked to do. The instruction
starts it all where the teacher needs to ensure they are teaching what is
going to be assessed, and that feedback is being received where need be.
I think that a teacher can use the three types of assessment to foster
of learning, goal setting and achievement by creating learning goals with
each assignment or task that is given in class. By creating a learning goal,
the students will already know what they are going to be learning, and can
focus on learning that throughout the lesson. The different forms of
assessment can include success criteria, which allows the students to know
what is expected of them.
