PHI MU FACT SHEET:

Mission Statement: Founded in 1852, Phi Mu is a womens organization that provides


personal and academic development, service to others, commitment to excellence, and
lifelong friendship through a shared tradition. Phi Mu promotes vibrant living,
encouraging members to achieve their personal best.

History: Phi Mu was started in the state of Georgia at Wesleyan College in Macon, as
the second oldest sorority in the nation. Founded by Mary Ann Dupont, Mary Elizabeth
Myrick and Martha Bibb Hardaway, the sorority now has 228 chapters at colleges
across the nation with over 175,000 members.

Headquarters: The national headquarters of Phi Mu is located in Peachtree City,


Georgia, which includes a museum documenting the sororitys history, as well as, a
leadership-training center.

Phi Mu at Georgia Southern University (GSU): The Kappa Mu Chapter of Phi Mu


was founded at GSU in 1962. Fifty-four years later, the chapter currently has over 200
members.

Philanthropy: Phi Mu at GSU raises money for Childrens Miracle Network at


Memorial Medical Center in Savannah, Georgia, the only childrens hospital in
Southeast Georgia with pediatric special care and intensive care units to meet the critical
care needs of children in the area.
