Bird Flu

Bird flu viruses occur naturally in migratory wildfowl, though they tend not to
develop an infection. However the virus can be passed to domestic birds, which are far
more susceptible. The virus currently causing concern is the deadly strain H5NI, which
can prove fatal to humans.

Although the H5NI strain of bird flu does not cross species easily, it can pass to
humans. About half those who have been infected by H5NI usually only after very close
contact with birds have died. Symptoms range from fever, sore throat and cough to
respiratory illness and organ failure.

Lethal global flu epidemics tend to occur three or four times a century. Some
scientists believe a new one may be imminent and could be triggered by bird flu. The
concern is if people already suffering from a human strain of flu contract the H5NI
virus. The viruses could join to create a previously unknown version not yet recognised by
human immune systems. The new variant is likely to spread quickly and easily triggering a
deadly pandemic. Experts predict it could kill more than 2 million people and infect
millions more.

There is currently no effective vaccine to protect humans against H5NI. If a

pandemic virus emerges, it would take at least three months to start work on a vaccine.
However some anti viral drugs can help limit symptoms and reduce the chances of the
disease spreading.

FLU BURUNG

Virus flu burung terjadi secara alami pada perpindahan unggas liar, meskipun
mereka cenderung untuk tidak berkembang menjadi infeksi bagaimanapun juga virus dapat
menular kepada hewan piaraan, yang jauh lebih rentan. Virus ini menyebabkan
kekhawatiran adanya virus H5N1 yang mematikan dan fatal bagi manusia.
Walaupun keterangan virus H5N1 berasal dari flu burung tidak dapat menulari

yang tidak diketahui sehingga belum dikenal oleh sistim kekebalan tubuh. Jenis baru
mungkin cepat menyebar dan dengan mudah memicu wabah mematikan. Perkiraan para

A Military Installation

The installation where we are stationed is typical of many installation. The

facilities cover an area of sixty thousand square meters. In addition to the facillities
that are usually found on any military installation, there are special buildings for
classroom instruction. There are also library facilities, and hospital facilities.

Housing includes barracks for the serviceman, complete with recreation and study
facilities. Both apartment and houses are available for married officers, NCOS and
civillian whose facilities are with them. These military quarters are equipped with
electrical appliances. A commissary is operated for serviceman and their families.

Recreation and sports are part of the life of the people at the installation. Basket
ball, football and volleyball teams are organized. There are indoor tennis court and
Gymnasium hall including equipment for table tennis. At this installation there are Imam
for the At Taqwa Mosque, where every Friday the Moslems had their prayer.
 All in all, the installation is a complete community in itself. It provides most of the
activities of Indonesian life. In addition, the installation provides an auditorium for multi
purpose use, such as wedding ceremony and seminars.

KESATRIAN MILITER

Kesatrian dimana kita menetap atau bekerja merupakan satu jenis dari beberapa
kesatrian dengan berbagai fasilitas yang mengatasi area seluas 60 ribu meter persegi.
Fasilitas tambahan biasanya terdapat dalam beberapa Kesatrian Militer yaitu bangunan
khusus ruang kelas instruksi, fasilitas lain seperti perpustakaan dan rumah sakit.

Tempat tinggal seperti barak untuk Tamtama lengkap dengan sarana rekreasi dan
fasilitas belajar. Apartemen dan rumah-rumah tersedia pula untuk Perwira yang telah
menikah, Bintara dan PNS yang difasilitasi untuk mereka. Markas militer tersebut
dilengkapi pula dengan peralatan listrik yang dioperasikan utuk Tamtama beserta
keluarganya.

Rekreasi dan Olah raga merapakan bagian dari kehidupan orang-orang di kesatrian.
Tim basket, sepakbola dan volley diorganisir terdapat juga lapangan tennis dalam ruangan
dan ruangan senam/fitnes termasuk juga perlengkapan untuk tennis meja. Di Kesatrian
terdapat Imam pada masjid At Taqwa yang mana setiap hari Jumat umat muslim
sembahyang.

Dari kesemuannya ini, Kesatrian merupakan suatu komunitas lengkap yang terdapat
di dalamnya ini menyediakan beragam aktifitas dari kehidupan orang Indonesia, sebagai
tambahan instalasi dilengkapi dengan Aula yang dapat digunakan oleh berbagai macam
kegiatan seperti pernikahan dan seminar.

 STAY HEALTHY

It may be weeks or months before you are ready to go to your next job. Being a
student is not the best situation in regard to health. There is very little physical activity
in a classroom, and home work often requires one or more hours of sitting down. If this
routine is continued for ten months or more, your body is not as strong as it was when you
arrived.
Studying makes people mentally tired. This may cause them to eat more food than
the body requires. Since your body does not need this food, you could gain too much
weight. Also you are not getting the proper exercises. This causes the muscles to become
weak.
Your next training phase may require more non-physical activity. A weak person
may become tired by twelve noon and not learn effectively in the afternoon. Also a weak
person does not have the fast reactions for many things that may be required. There
fore, it is for the benefit of the individual not to allow his stay at the command and staff
college to weaken him physically.

The best advice is to try to do some physical activity each day. Student should
spend time and play volley ball or tennis ball. Running and walking is also very good. There
is a gymnasium on the installation. You should visit this regularly. Even a few push ups
every morning help the muscles keep in shape for the day.

Also it is good to check your weight every few days. If you are gaining weight,
perhaps you should skip eating the dessert. If you are losing weight, perhaps you are not
getting enough sleep and are not eating any breakfast. It always helps to know how your
body may be adjusting to a new situation.

If you are sick, do not try to cure yourself. Check out at headquarters clinic and
see the military doctor. Do not wait hoping that a fever or headache may go away. It is
always good to see a doctor when you have an ailment. It may be very serious and may
need immediate medical attention.

TETAP SEHAT

Ini mungkin berminggu-minggu atau berbulan-bulan sebelum kamu siap untuk

melakukan pekerjaan selanjutnya. Menjadi seorang murid bukanlah situasi yang terbaik
dalam memerhatikan kesehatan. Sangat sedikit kegiatan phisik didalam kelas dan
pekerjaan rumah sering menghabiskan waktu sampai sejam atau lebih untuk duduk. Jika
kegiatan rutin ini berlangsung hingga 10 bulan atau lebih, maka badan kita tidak akan
sekuat seperti pertama tiba.
 Belajar membuat orang-orang secara mental menjadi lelah. Hal ini menyebabkan
mereka memakan makanan yang lebih daripada kebutuhan badan. Sejak badan kita tidak
memerlukan makanan, anda akan mengalami kelebihan berat badan, anda juga tidak
mendapatkan latihan-latihan rutin. Hal ini menyebabkan otot otot akan menjadi lemah.
Tahap latihan selanjutnya adalah aktifitas non fisik. Orang lemah bisa menjadi
lelah hingga jam 12 siang, dan tidak mampu belajar secara efektif pada siang hari. Orang
yang lemah juga tidak memiliki reaksi yang cepat pada beberapa hal yang diharapkan,
untuk itu menjadi keuntungan bagi individu yang tidak lulus pada kursus Komando dan Staf
dikarenakan kemampuan fisiknya yang lemah.
Saran terbaik adalah mencoba untuk melakukan aktifitas fisik setiap hari. Siswa
harus menghabiskan waktu dan bermain foli dan bola tennis. Berlari dan berjalan juga
sangat baik. Terdapat ruang fitnes/senam yang harus dikunjungi secara rutin.
Melaksanakan Pus Up setiap hari membantu otot-otot tetap kuat sepanjang hari.
Laksanakan pengecekan badan setiap hari. Jika berat badan mulai bertambah,
mungkin anda harus menghentikan makan cemilan/kue-kue. Jika berat badan berkurang
mungkin anda kurang cukup istirahat dan tidak makan di pagi hari. Hal ini membantu anda
untuk mengetahui sejauh mana tubuh kita perlu diatur pada situasi yang baru.
Jika anda sakit, Jangan coba-coba untuk menyembuhkan sendiri laksanakan
pemeriksanaan di Klinik dan tanyakan pada Dokter. Jangan mengharapkan bahwa suatu
gejala atau sakit kepala berlalu sendiri. Lebih baik untuk tanyakan kepada Dokter jika

 MERAPI VOLCANO

Merapi, one of Indonesians most active volcanoes, lies in one of the worlds most
densely populated areas and dominates the landscape immediately north of the major city
of Yogyakarta. The volcano is the object of extensive monitoring efforts by the Merapi
Volcano observatory of the Volcanological Survey of Indonesia. Merapi volcano is situated
geographically at the intersection between two main volcanic alignments Ungaran
Telomoyo Merbabu Merapi and Lawu Merapi Sumbing Sindoro Slamet. Among
them, Merapi volcano is the youngest one. Merapi volcano has suffered an evolution.
Merapi activity is characterised by a very frequent eruption ranging from 1 to 5 years of
time duration, weak explosion, and low gas pressure.

Every year the Karaton Palace of Yogyakarta gives regular offering in Ngestihaji,
north of Kimahrejo village. The ritual starts from the house of Grand father Marijan, a
native of the village, assigned by Karaton of Yogyakarta as the gate keeper of Merapi.
The offering are meant for the welfare of the Sultan and people of Yogyakarta and
prosperity of the country, to commemorate the coronation of the Sultan.

One important social aspect of Merapi volcano is tourism. The position of the
volcano close to some tourist object such as Borobudur and Prambanan temples, and even
to Yogyakarta city, allow it to become an alternative or extra site to visit. Due to the
good accessibility compared to other volacanoes, many domestic and international tourist
have visited Merapi volcano. The presence of an area such as Kaliurang in the south flank

GUNUNG MERAPI

Merapi merupakan salah satu gunung berapi yang masih aktif di Indonesia, yang

wilayah utara dari daerah DIY. Gunung Merapi merupakan obyek monitor yang dilakukan
oleh tim observasi gunung berapi yang merupakan bagian/kelompok dari Badan Surve
Vulkanologi Indonesia. Secara geografi Gunung Merapi berada pada posisi silang dari 2
deretan gunung berapi Ungaran-Telomoyo-Merbabu-Merapi dan Lawu-Merapi-Sumbing-
Sindoro-Slamet. Diantara gunung-gunung tersebut gunung Merapi merupakan yang
termuda. Gunung Merapi mendapat Evolusi. Aktivitas Merapi memiliki frekwensi letusan
yang cukup sering padfa kurun waktu 1-5 tahun ini dengan letusan yang lemah dan tekanan
gas yang rendah.
 Setiap tahun keraton-Istana Yogyakarta memberikan upeti di Ngestihaji, sebelah

Military leadership is the art of influencing and directing men in such a way to
obtain their willing obedience, confidence, respect and loyal cooperation in order to
accomplish the mission. Willing obedience is obtained when a person readily and gladly
does what he is asked to or ordered to do. A leader has the confidence of his men if they
believe him, trust him. A soldier show loyal cooperation by supporting his leader.

Enthusiasm is the display (showing) of interest in the performance of duties. When

a man show a lot of interest in his job, he is enthusiastic about it. Pride is a belief in the
worth of things. A man normally take pride in his accomplishment. Parents are usually
proud of their children. Esprit de corps is loyalty to, pride and enthusiasm for the unit
shown by its members.

Decesiveness is the ability to make decisions promptly or on time. A leader who

performs his duties properly has dependability. In other word, a leader who perform his
duties properly is dependable. Initiative is seeing what has to be done and starting a
course of action. Integrity is the quality of fruthfulnes and honesty. An individual who
tells the truth and is honest has integrity. Justice is the quality of being impartial and
consistent in exercising command. And impartial leader does not favor one person more
than another. When a person holds to the same principles, he is consistent.
