Dear Friend,
Greetings to you in the wonderful name of our Lord Jesus Christ!
We have been learning more and more about prayer here at the church and the
Lord has been bringing forth wonderful results. A man visited our church a
little while ago who has been out of work for over a year. We encouraged him
and told him we would be praying for him. Less than a week later I found out
he received three job offers and was able to choose the one that fit him the best!
Several people have recently testified that they received prayer at the
church and the Lord has healed them of various ailments! Yes, the Lord does
still answer prayer! Jesus said if we ask, it will be given to us; if we seek, we
shall find; and if we knock, the doors shall be opened to us. But I have found
that the key to answers to prayer is in my attitude and outlook. Prayer must be
offered with sincerity, reverence of God, and the belief that He hears and
answers each prayer. The Bible tells us that if we pray according to His will, He
hears us. And if He hears us, we know we have the petitions we request of
Him. This is our confidence. We pray according to the will of God. His will is
found all throughout the pages of God's Word.
The apostle Paul had a situation that he called "a thorn in the flesh."
Whatever it was, he prayed about it three times, that it would depart from him.
II Corinthians 12: 9 says, "And He said unto me, My grace is sufficient for
thee: for My strength is made perfect is weakness." There are things that
come our way that will keep us humble. These things may knock the wind out
of our sails, but they keep us dependent on Him who loves us! When a person
realizes they cannot serve God in their own strength, but understand they need
His strength, then the power of Christ can rest upon them. I now can do all
things "through Christ which strengtheneth me."
Usually when we focus on the wrong thing we become spiritually
drained. The writer of Psalm 42 spoke of his thirst for the living God. From
there, everything seemed to snowball against him. Twice in this psalm he asked
his own soul, "Why art thou cast down, O my soul?" As we read this psalm
there seems to be a conflict within the writer. His trials were real, but his focus
started to leave what others did, said, and thought, and was placed back on his
relationship with his God. Verse 5 says, "For I shall yet praise Him for the
help of His countenance." He believed God would help him some day. He
knew things would work out, but the words seem to be detached from the close
relationship the believer should experience with the Lord. We then read of his
discouragements, but he ends this psalm by saying, "For I shall yet praise
Him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God." These trials took
him from a neutral outlook of God, to a personal intimate relation. He began to
acknowledge that the Lord was the health of his countenance, but more
importantly, He became his God! What about you? Is your situation driving
you from God or to God? Is the Lord just some entity out there in space
somewhere, or has He become your Father, your friend? Is He your burden-
bearer, or just something made up in your mind? Paul found grace and strength
through Christ in his time of need. The psalmist found that the Lord was the
health of his countenance and his God. What will be your testimony? Is the
Lord Jesus your all in all? Are you becoming luke-warm over the things of God
and His church? Or, are you drawing near to Him and regaining your zeal,
knowing He will cause you to excel? Remember, we can do all things through
Christ which strengthens us!
I invite you to our church services. We meet at 624 Torringford West
Street in Torrington, CT. Our schedule of services is Sunday at 10 am and 7
pm, and Wednesday at 7:30 pm. May God bless you!
Sincerely,
