penduduk mengidap infeksi kronis. Infeksi VHB sangat berbahaya karena dapat
menimbulkan beberapa komplikasi yaitu hepatitis B kronis, sirosis hati, dan
kanker hati.

Abstract

Hepatitis B is a worldwide health problem that shows high level of

morbidity and mortality. Throughout the world, it is approximately calculated that
almost 2 billions people infected with hepatitis B Virus (HBV) and an estimated
350 millions people suffer from chronic infections. Hepatitis B is very dangerous
because it is a silent infection that can infect people without them knowing it.
HBV infection may lead to chronic Hepatitis B, Liver Cirrhosis and liver cancer.
One of the preventive measure it to execute the Hepatitis B immunization,
especially for those who were often exposed to infection such as nurses and
doctors.

The goal of the experiment is to evaluate the interconnection between the

knowledge about hepatitis B immunization and the action of those nurses at
Rumah Sakit Umum Pusat Haji Adam Malik (RSUPHAM), in Medan, year 2011.
The form of debate conducted is descriptive analytic. 80 randomly chosen nurses
who work there were asked to participate in this study. The experiment was held
fron June to July 2011 and all those data were collected through questionnaire.

The obtained results showed that the level of knowledge among 50

(62.5%) of the 80 participated nurses on Hepatitis B were quite impressive. For as
much as 61 (76.3%) nurses received their immunization. From the completion of
the stastitical tests, it is know that the relationship between the level of knowledge
with the number of nurses that took the Hepatitis B shot do exists. (p=0.008)

It is recommended to the RSUPHAM to further enhance the knowledge of

nurses and also the entire staff of other healthproblems, so they have a
better action, especially in disease prevention, because the people who work in
hospitals are at riskfor contracting nosocomial infections.
