Teaching Practicum

25th February 2017

Reflection on the process of creating and implementing the lesson plan

As telling something about Lesson plan it is very important and it assist teachers to assure that

the day by day activities that go on in the classrooms are effecting the students or not. I think

lesson plans plays an important role because it helps students as well as the teachers to go on the

right track. As reflecting on the entire process of creating and implementing my lesson plan I

used to spent a long time thinking on what activities should I include how can I make it

interesting. Before starting my lesson plan I thought the whole process like what do I want my

students to learn, what teaching and learning strategies to use. These things came to my mind. I

outlined the learning objectives first what is the topic and what they need to learn and after that I

developed the introduction and I planned the specific learning activities in the part of developing

the lesson. And I developed the conclusion part and preview. My lesson went quite well. As my

cooperating teacher do not have the specific lesson plans so when she saw it she appreciated me

on that. As most of my students were visual learners so during the practicum some of my lesson

did not work well or sometimes I had to change or add some of the things in to my lesson as

looking at the students if they were bored I would show them the related videos to keep them

interested.

Discovered about students

The thing what I discovered from this two weeks practicum about my students is two or three of

my students are a special students. They had repeated class twice. And they are the ones who

need special care and love, also I found out that scolding and giving them punishment does not

work for them or any of the students. There was the time when I was working with the special

student when I was a bit angry with him because he was not listening me at all that did not work

but later when I smiled to him and encouraged him that you can do it, he started doing all of his

works. So from that I discovered that encouragement plays an important role. And academically,

many of the students that I found are visual learners and they mostly prefer reading animals story

books. Students were actively participating when the time comes for turn pair and share. The

students are more interested in writing journals, experiments, hands on work, etc.

Discovered about my subject

As during the two weeks practicum I taught them science, Bible, Math and P.E. and what I

discovered is that these subjects needs a little bit of effort and many resources to teach. This

subjects are not an easy subjects to teach but in many ways it is interesting too because in this

two weeks practicum not only my students I also got a chance to learn more. I also discovered

that science is the subjects which involve experiments, discussion and involvement. And for P.E I

learned that a clear instruction plays a vital role when it comes to kids.

Discovered myself as a teacher

As discovering myself as a teacher what I learned is that teaching is one of the difficult and

sometimes thankless job but also enjoyable. Seeing the innocent faces of the kids mays our day.

I continued to give my best effort every single day even though I was hopeless sometimes. In

short I do not know if all students benefit from my being their teacher. I hoped that nearly all do
benefit though. And with that hope, I continue to work at improving their knowledge on the

subjects that I was teaching them. And most importantly what I discovered myself as a teacher is

that I am a caring and a thoughtful teacher who is ready to bring immense energy and knowledge

to my students nearly every day thinking that they will learn something from my day to day

teaching.

Discovered myself personally

What I discovered myself personally from these two weeks practicum is nothing is impossible if

we try we can do everything. For instance speaking about math I used to think that I can never be

a math teacher even to the kids but that I was totally wrong. I did my best on math and overall it

was okay. Also I discovered that my weakness was weakness no more I used to think that I am

not flexible and adaptable but that was my highest strengths on this two weeks practicum. I got

to learn that nothing is impossible if we try our best. And I have been able to reflect on my

experiences and learn so much more about who I am becoming as a teacher, and how much I

have grown as an individual. And also I realized how relationship plays an important role

through my teaching I have formed a special bonds with the students and the teachers I met. I

believe Parker J. Palmer is correct Teaching, like any truly human activity, emerges from ones

inwardness, for better or worse. I think this is really true statement.
