Definitions
TIME DEFINITIONS

Assembly Lead Time


n. The number of days into the assembly process when any bill of material detail
is required (0=required immediately).

Cycle
n. The time required to process one unit of an Item in a Shop Control
environment.

Order Lead Time


n. The average number of days required to acquire an item.

Off Time
n. The portion of a Work Center Shift when no work is done (capacity is zero).

Order Lead Time


n. The average number of days required to acquire an item.

Queue Time
n. The time required to ready a specified Work Center for processing (does not
consume Work Center resources).

Run Time
n. The time required to process a Manufacturing Order based on its Setup and
Cycle Time.

Setup Time
n. The time required to ready a specified Work Center for processing (does
consume Work Center resources).

Wait Time
The time required by a specified Work Center before processing in that Work
Center can resume (does not consume Work Center resources).

QUANTITY DEFINITIONS

Maximum
n. The largest quantity of an item that should exist at any location at any time.
See also Minimum.

Minimum
n. The smallest quantity of an item that should exist at any location at any time.
See also Maximum.

Minimum
n. The smallest quantity of an item that should exist at any location at any time.
See also Maximum.

Reorder Point
n. The stock level at which additional material should be ordered.

Batch Size
n. The quantity of the Item to be produced at one time. Used in Level 3 to
determine how the Queue, Setup, and Wait times are applied.

Build Quantity
n. The number of assembled items produced when the bill of material is
processed (i.e. a bill of material for a bicycle makes 1 bike, but a "recipe" for
bread may build 768 loaves).

Lot Size
n. The number of units normally handled or assembled together (i.e. a bag of
1000 screws, box of 144 pencils, pallet of 17 castings).

TRANSFERS DEFINITIONS

Item Transfer
n. A collection of stock transfers which affect only individual items.

Group Transfer
n. A collection of stock transfers which are driven by bills of material, effecting
only the raw material components (not the finished good).

Sales Transfer
n. A group of stock transfers which move stock from a MISys/2000 inventory
location to an ACCPAC for Windows Inventory location.

Supplier Transfer
n. A group of stock transfers which receive material from and return material to a
MISys/2000 supplier when no purchase order is involved.

Assembly Transfer
n. A collection of stock transfers which are driven by bills of material, effecting
both the raw material components and the finished good simultaneously.

ITEM DEFINITIONS

Consumed Item
n. An Item which is consumed in its entirety in the process of completing a
manufacturing order and which cannot be recovered in the case of disassembly.

Subassembly
n. An assembled item which is used as a component in a bill of material. See
Assembly.

Resource
n. An item which is not inventoried but which has value and can be included as a
detail in a bill of material (e.g. labor, grease, inspection).

Finished Good
n. An assembled item which is not used in any higher level assembly.

Bulk Issue Item


n. An item that you dispense to the factory floor in bulk, but is used in a bill of
material piecemeal.

Assembly
n. An item which consists of a number of other items and to which a bill of
material is (or will be) attached.

Common Item
n. An item which is neither serialized nor lot tracked.

Item
n. Anything (tangible or intangible) which can be used to make something else, or
is made using something else. See also Resource.

Lot-tracked Item
n. An item which belongs to a collection of parts which must be tracked for
regulatory purposes.

Approved Manufacturer
n. One of up to 5 acceptable manufacturers associated with a purchased item.
See also Manufacturer.

Auto-build Function
n. A function of MISys/2000 which automatically draws the components of a
subassembly which has run short.

Conversion Factor
n. The multiplication factor used to calculate the quantity in stock based on the
Purchasing Unit.

n. Subrecords of a bill of material, purchase order, manufacturing order, etc.

Location
n. Any stockroom, warehouse, or plant where inventory may be stored.

SHOP FLOOR CONTROL

Dispatch List

n. A list of the Manufacturing Orders that are currently due to be processed at the
specified Work Center.

Efficiency
n. The output of a given Work Center as a percent of its input.

Load Graph
n. A graph illustrating the capacity of a Work Center and the utilization of that
Work Center related to open Manufacturing Orders.

Maintenance
n. The process of preparing a Tool for continued use.

COST DEFINITIONS

Assembled Cost
n. The sum of the extended standard costs of all the components of an
assembled item, as by the assembled item's bill of material.

Average Cost
n. A weighted moving average of recent costs calculated by multiplying the
current average cost by the current quantity in stock, adding the new quantity
being received multiplied by its recent cost, and dividing by the total quantity in
stock.

Completed Cost
n. The sum of the standard costs of Items actually used on a manufacturing
order, minus the cost of scrapped Items.

Cost Rollup
n. The act of resetting the standard cost of assembled items based on their
assembled cost and burden rate.

FIFO Cost
n. A list of changes in the standard cost of any item, together with quantities,
maintained on a first in, first out basis.

LIFO Cost
n. A list of changes in the standard cost of any item, together with quantities,
maintained on a last in, first out basis.

MPS MRP DEFINITIONS

Current Activity
n. Master Production Scheduling activity that results from current inventory,
existing (open) purchase orders, and existing (released) manufacturing orders.

Display Filter
n. A set of controls that govern the types of Items that are displayed in the Master
Production Schedule.

Finish Assembly Event


n. A scheduling event which simulates an Item on a manufacturing order being
assembled on a specified date.
