ARTIST STATEMENT
What is an artist statement?

A general introduction to your work, a body of work, or a specific project.

Your artist statement is about facts, a basic introduction to your art; it's not instructions
on what to experience, what to think, how to feel, how to act, or where to stand, and if it
is, you better do a rewrite. Please answer the questions below & then compose your
artist statement in paragraph form. The artist statement should be 3-5 paragraphs
including 3-5 sentences each.

1. Why do you make art? What inspires you?

I make art in order to communicate my thoughts, feelings, and personality in an
interesting and accurate way.

2. How did you choose your logo idea? What was your thought process on your
designs?

I chose to use a dragon as my personal logo because I really like dragons, and they
are known to represent some of my key personal traits. I am a hardworking, loyal,
and (hopefully) intelligent person, and dragons typically symbolize these traits.

3. What does your logo and trademark mean to you?

My logo represents my personality and the way that I think. It is my opinion that a
dragon is a good representation of these things.

4. Explain your symbolism. What does each part signify &/or represent?

The dragon as a whole symbolizes intelligence, persistence, risk-taking, and honor,

which are traits that I value in people and want to create in myself.

5. What is unique/special about your logo and trademark?

My logo is unique because I created it on my own. Its also special because of the
shape of the wings and the devils tail.

6. What tool/technique did you like the best that you used to create your logo?
Although I used the paint tool for the majority of the project, I really liked using the
pen tool whenever possible to create the shapes that I needed for the image that I
wanted to create.

7. What was the most challenging part about creating a logo from scratch?

The most challenging part about creating a logo from scratch is trying to figure out
what the idea in your head actually looks like on a computer screen, and then
figuring out how to make that happen without copying another artist.

8. How does your logo connect to your TM?

My logo and trademark are connected because both of them include the same
flames and devils tail.

9. Were you able to transform your idea into a graphic? Or did your plan change?

My plan changed a little bit, because I thought of a new head shape while I was
working, but for the most part, I was able to transform my original idea into a
graphic.

10. How did you incorporate detail into your design?

The overall shape of the dragon, especially the head and wing tips, are extremely
detailed. The flames also include a lot of detail.

11. How did you incorporate color into your graphic?

I chose to make the body of the dragon plain black because I wanted it to look
almost like it could be a silhouette. I did make the flames colorful though, because
in a silhouette, they would be the only element of color. Of course, the sun behind
the dragon is also a huge addition of color.

12. How did you include value changes and contrast?

The eyes of the dragon are a stark contrast to the plain black body. In addition

13. What is the most successful part of your logo/trademark?

The most successful part of my logo is the shape of the dragon, because it was
incredibly difficult to get it exactly the way that I wanted it.

14. What needs some work?

It might have been nice to add a little bit of gradient to the dragons body.

that I did manage to do this pretty successfully.

While working with this logo, I did everything that I could to incorporate artistic
elements. The overall shape of the dragon, especially the head and wing tips, are
extremely detailed. The flames also include a lot of detail. I chose to make the body of
the dragon plain black because I wanted it to look almost like it could be a silhouette. I

There is also a huge amount of contrast in my final product. The eyes of the dragon are a
stark contrast to the plain black body, which is also in extreme contrast with the sun in
the background.
