Purpose of the Training Programme

Human rights are those rights which are inherent in our nature and without which we
cannot live as human beings
- United Nations (1987 Publication)
Human rights are fundamental freedom which allow us to fully develop and use our human
qualities, intelligence, talents and conscience to satisfy our spiritual and other needs. Human rights are
universal and apply to all persons without discrimination. Human rights in India is an issue
complicated by the countrys large size and its tremendous diversity. The constitution of India
provides for fundamental rights, which include equality and freedom of religion, speech, education
etc. Human rights are those rights in the absence of which, lives become directionless, development
will be fruitless and survival of human being will be meaningless.

The purpose of this training is to inculcate the knowledge and create awareness about human
rights to various segments of students. This training programme enables the students to know about
the Constitutional Provisions, Human Rights institutions in India, Rights of various groups etc. The
protection of human rights assumes more significance today as these rights are deliberately violated
by different groups and terrorist organizations across the world.
